You know BV-I go to the trouble to find out where the photos were taken--and you don't
even come back acknowledge. Don't ask anymore questions-I'm not going to bother.

Mmmm- I like that butterfly hood. Wouldn't be handy to work on, but I just like how they look.

I think we are safely past the warranty period, time to turn the boost up and get to rolling.....

Also- I wanted to mention the KW in post #6661 "Brute".

That's the kind of truck I'm drawn to, short wheelbase, lots of capacity, day cab. Make a perfect truck with a flatbed for hauling counterweight.

This week I needed my old '81 flatbed a hour and a half (in a car)- from the shop. We don't have our other flatbed finished yet, and had both cranes way over there. Its a spring over walking beam, short wheelbase, and my current driver for it has only driven it loaded, and he doesn't like the truck anyways- vs. the 20 year newer truck he usually drives.

His usual truck is all air ride and big cat and drives like a car. The old ford rides like a wooden wagon with no suspension.

When I told the driver we needed him to take it there- empty- his face fell and I knew he probably was going to find some reason it couldn't get there. Me and the other operator and rigger took off in the pickup- I told him to take it easy and he had 1/2 the day to get there.

I got the call about 20 minutes later "I can't get over 35 mph in this thing and it starts shaking horribly- somethings wrong with it". Well- I know what's wrong with it, and what's wrong with it is- that its forty years old with a stiff suspension. But I had him just turn around and head back for the shop- if he doesn't feel safe then he shouldn't be driving it. We shuttled some stuff around on saturday and made it work.

The guys who made their living driving those old girls every day- earned their money. And 50mph is plenty fast.

That is really tempting. I wish it still had the water tank on it.

There is one here at the penitentiary just like it, has been setting for years. Complete with water tank,
painted yellow, I watch the Wa St Surplus auction to see if it ever comes up.
We rarely need a water truck for our work, but do occasionally. Normally we just rent one, but in the last few years obtaining a rental has been difficult due to lack of availability.

Purchasing something for a low price that we could haul to a job and use as needed could make sense.
