They may have improved a bit but to me Haas was always low end, the last Mori center I ran could be programed and set up to run very automatic, even the set-ups as long as fixtures were on location pins or? Programs auto load position offsets and probe goes from that. Preset loaded tools double checked by the tool setter etc. 4th axis positions macro calculated. Most all my programming was G code at the control. And did a low end cnc programing software at times too. Wish I had one of those machines.
I have a vf1 for sale

The only part of the journey that matters is the upward journey of vtech Bank account cause any relationship obligations have long since been satisfied and according to the saga the company is no closer to solving a problem that they refuse to take head on and come to terms with

OK, I have a bit of time for the moment.

On the wife's front things have gotten better. We found a guy that was familiar with the programming and the machine set up and operations. She is training with him as needed but she has learned a lot these last few months. She has gotten pretty efficient in what she needs to know to keep the shop running. There have been some parts she has to sacrifice due to not being able to operate the CMM and not enough knowledge on the CNC lathe. She is content on doing the simpler parts and letting go of the more complicated things................hell she wouldn't have enough time to run everything she was before the family defection anyway, so she is good with it. I still fill in when I have time which lately hasn't been much.

On my front its business as usual. This construction company bought the place across the street and has now expanded the equipment yard and facilities. It hasn't affected me as of yet. The heavy workload is still there with no help in site. A lot of word about new equipment replacing some of the older stuff, but most of that has been axed now. It seems they want to stretch the machine life more and not buying expensive new equipment every few years. Yeah..........guess what that means, more f^%ing work for me........YEAAA!

I have squeezed in a few other small jobs for others, but this company is still fine with me doing everything and fills most of my time....I guess the $25-40K a month isn't phasing them. The checks have still been good and consistent so there's that!

There's something wrong here. You veterans will spot it right off.

For those of you with less experience or horrible eyesight.......let me help you out a bit

The operator kept pumping grease in the adjust cylinder and couldn't for the life of him figure out why he was having to constantly add grease. Over $5K in parts........along with new sprocket segments and bolts. The rails are smooth wore out and should have been replaced now with the upper and lower rollers. I get to do the rest of the undercarriage in a couple of months..........they just had to have this dozer on a job now.

I'll try to keep up with this thread a bit better now that wifey is in better shape! Stay tuned...........

OK I'll admit I had very little experience with tracked machines over the years.

Probably in around 45 years only changed chains, rollers and such a handful of times and usually it was just do what need to be done to get it out of the shop and on a trailer for someone else to deal with!

So forgive me if I failed to notice that the axle and/or bearings have long since given up the ghost for a few seconds!

the hell of it is the same companies that will stroke the big monthly checks without complaint will squawk at hiring a company wrench for a decent amount of money.

Wave $100-120k per year and some real good benefits at somebody good and they would be happy to take it which would be a third of your lower end rate per month.

But that would be “too expensive”

Very true. It makes no sense to me whatsoever but that is exactly what I have seen the past 10 years. I guess there is better tax benefits to writing me off as a sub and the cost coming straight off their gross numbers. I believe what has happened is the people they have hired in the past just didn't perform well enough. Hell, they were paying HNC $75K a year salary and nothing got done.....or very little. The last guy with experience only worked a week and quit. It's a new reality they don't want to screw with and would rather just keep me as a sub. It would be very easy for them to tell me to get lost with no strings.

The bad thing is I just turned 60 2 weeks ago. I don't have much time left doing the physical part of this job and there is no one on the payroll for me to train. WTF are they going to do when I'm done? It would suck to attempt training someone when I'm not turning the wrenches anymore.

Same that was done when I left--open the wallet a little wider and dig a little deeper, and charge
more for their services construction wise.

The great part about solving that problem is you will be done and don't own that outfit so it won't be your problem

They created the mess they can figure out how to clean it up
