Hi Crissco

Nice looking 6255. I particularly like the first shot through the trees. Looks like you guys are in some nice timber. How do you guys have the MSP rigged. Looks like you are shotgunning with it are is the haulback off doing a line change?

Shotgunning with a MSP Carriage

I've never heard of anyone trying to shotgun with a msp carriage. It doesn't mean it hasn't been done. The big problem I see is that the running skyline (haulback) holds your carriage in place as you slack your dropline and when yarding your turn to the carriage. Without the haulback holding the carriage in place, I envision the carriage all over the place..........dangerous for life and limb. It's much like having a motorized slackpulling carriage with no haulback and no skyline clamp. I've had to run one with defective (worn out) clamps. It just becomes an expensive drift carriage.....

My build records also say that 5087 and 5088,were both sold new to L C Logging but have no information on the carriers and are missing some locations.Except for 5080 (Later transfered to Caterpillar tracs) I know of one other 255 on rubber tires but i dont know the S/N and that one was on a Beall SP Carrier. If 5088 and 5087 were on rubber they couldn't have bean on Berger rubber tire carriers, there were only 4 or 5 Mark 5 Bergers built and only 2 of them were on rubber tires the Zwight machin was scraped except for the carrier wich was used for the 255 and the other rubbermounted Mark 5 is still around. So if they were on rubber tires they were on a dferent brand of carrier.

LC logging's 255 was on rubber new, sold to a logger in the Roseburg area who converted it back to tracks. They only bought one 255 though so I wonder if the 5087sn is the SP carrier?

Yeh, I recall talking to the logger that imported 5087 into NZ at the time and have vague memories of him relating to the updated undercarriage. Also thought that Berger was mentioned. However, it was over fifteen years ago but I am still in contact with him so will see how good his memory is. It also raises the question as to if LC logging only purchased one 255, was it 5087 or 5088. On the SP carrier, I have 5090 down for that and who knows, it could have been 5087's cast off......... Where's Ken Nicholls these days - he would probably have the answers.

Rubber tired TSY255/S5087

I think I once read that Ross made 2 TSY255 on rubber tired carriers, but most people in their right mind seeing the pictures of that carrier would find it most likely they only made 1:tong. So then maybe this is S5087 and S5088 together?

T/Bird Rubber 255 - Torkel

I agree Torkel - it looks somewhat complex compared to one I saw in Oct 89 at Rosscorp (pic). In my shot I'm purely guessing that's either an M5 or a Pierce undercarriage.

TSY 255 on rubber, recently in Napier NZ, awaiting next job. Machine is syndicate owned, serial number hard to read. S 50?0 as best I could see.

Mr. Roadswitcher do you have any info on that TY-90 in the picture?
The 255 in the picture on Bell or a Pirce carrier. The M-5 has a diferent cradle for the tower which also servs as a goosneck.
Here is a picture of the 255 on the berger M-5http://www.pbase.com/rustygrapple/image/133244897
and here is a picture of a 255 on a Bell SP carrier that could be the same yarder as in your picture http://www.pbase.com/rustygrapple/image/134136282

TY 90 enquiry

Regrettably Johno I didn't take the opportunity to note any such info on the day. Provided it was new and working back from the build records it might be Y9067 but I'm not sure if 9067 was a trailor mount. Otherwise I think it would have to be a used 90. On the plus side, from the recent discussions, there would be a good chance that the rubber 255 in the shot is one and same as in log Frog's recent 857 post. I have S5090 with a Pierce Undercarriage (not a T/Bird as I mistakenly wrote, post 853) The problem with my old workshop records is that they are on very fine printed deteriorating fax paper and the notes are in a kind of brief shorthand. The only hint I have as to which 255 was on a T/Bird rubber mount as in Torkell's post, is S5074. It has SP by it in the notes. Does this sound right. It was the first 255 built and sold to Red McKenzie.

The TY-90 does look a lot like 9067 it could very well be 9067 all the little details match.9067 is trailermounted it is on a Skagit T-100 HD trailer. It was bought new by Jerry DeBriae Logging than sold to Tim Brown in 2005 and than to Diamond Timber it is the yarder in posts 237,238,239 and 471.
