The first place I tried to work at was Finning fresh out of welding school in 1969 with a #3 welding ticket. the guy hiring asked if I had any experience I said no but I had a welding ticket and he said " not worth a damn" A welding school buddy told me Columbia was hiring so I went to Columbia Trailers on Brighton ave Burnaby. I was hired because I had taken two weeks of Aluminum welding in a 11 month course, Columbia trailers had a contract to build ore carriers for White Pass and needed Aluminum welders. my welding was lousy so Fred Denisuk the production manager who hired me asked if I would go back to school and upgrade, I agreed and spent a month going to welding school and working night shift 16 hrs a day. Got my ticket and was on my way. Columbia trailers in those days would build anything with wheels, Logging trailers low boys, flat decks, Ore carriers, banana boat trailers tanker trailers, Chip boxes. I remember a lot of info from all my working career I think too long for here. worked 10+ years at Columbia trailers 25 years at Columbia Remtec and 11 years at Advance retiring in 2021
