Help with ‘74 D5 dozer.
It was a little too thick with the heavier wall tubing. Bound up on the hood just a bit. A little grinding on the edge of the hood and it dropped right in. -

The little “L” shaped stop is just tacked on for now. The tube is a larger OD than the original so I’m going to see if I can get it in place before we weld it on fully. If it won’t go I might have to turn down the tubing a bit to get it in. Getting ready to see if it fits today. -

I had to carefully grind off the remnants of the tubing where it was welded so the “caps” were the correct diameter to fit in a new section of tube. Thankfully the spring, though rusty still seemed in serviceable condition. A local weld shop had some tubing with the right ID. We got things... -

Help with engine oil level old D5
1974 Cat D5 Original CAT Service manual says check engine oil w/engine off, level ground. Dipstick says check oil level with engine at low idle. It makes a significant difference in oil level. Which is correct? -

I've removed the seat and opened the inspection panel on top. That is where I adjusted the brakes with the hex nut. On my machine the adjustment nut is 1-1/8. I've not messed with the linkage other than to inspect what I can see from the brake pedal back to the housing and everything is fine... -
