Try pulling the cover off the brake adjuster nut at the back of the machine. If it's up on blocks you aught to be able to listen for the sound easily if it's coming from the brake/clutch area. A squeal could be from the brake band dragging on the clutch drum in reverse. There are 2 springs...

I'm not sure what you mean by "need to replace the clutches and the final drive was removed." Some further explanation would be helpful. I got my manual from an online source. It's been so long ago that I do not remember who it was. Look for the official bound shop repair manual. The PDF's are...

Writing about clutches made me think about all the work we have done with our little machine. The first picture is the dozer in the bottom of a brand new tank we had dug back in 2007. I was smoothing out the globs of clay the D9 left after he finished roughing out the hole. The next picture is...

Just a thought about having to pull hard to get the D20 to turn. If tightening up your brakes doesn't do the trick it may be something else. Make sure your parking brake is completely disengaged! Check your hydraulic assist clutch system pressure. Without sufficient pressure from your assist...

akajun; Here is a pdf of the page out of my Komatsu manual for D21D. I'm seeing that if you pull out the steering clutch drum and remove the Bevel gear shaft hub the seal could be pried out and a new one installed without any further digging.

    Rant About Misrepresented Equipment

I bought a D20PL-6 fifteen years ago that had a lot of salt damage. It had an 8 foot tilt blade and wide tracks on it. The tracks and drive sprockets were new. The track rollers were shot. I had to replace them all. The track frame was so worn and rusted at the front that the idler wheels up...

IMHO my little D20 would stop dead "in its tracks" with those massive rippers in the ground. Perhaps the D21's with the hydrostatic transmission can apply the low end power needed to pull that thing.

Button head fittings are easily found on the net. Where would you direct me to start looking for a hand operated high pressure dedicated oiler pump? I’ve thought of trying to convert a grease gun to an oil gun but it would be a lot of work.

Manual says pressure is 155kg/cm^2 which converts to 2204.6 psi

When I got my D20PL-6 from the guy in Sulphur Springs it had just had new tracks and sprockets installed. What they didn’t replace were all the rollers which needed replacement desperately. The worst ones had the entire outer lip of the roller worn thru and fallen off so it rattled around as the...

Here is a picture of the stripped spline in the sprocket for my D20PL-6 I painstakingly smoothed the burs around the lip of the spline to see if it would help seat it better but that was a waste of time.

My machine is a D20PL-6 serial number 60357. Any idea what year that would be? It is a grey market machine. My Komatsu dealer doesn’t like working with me on it because of its Japanese origin. Previous owner did not press replacement sprockets onto axles. Over time the splines have worked...

    Komatsu D65e-6 overheat

With regards to stalling due to fuel issues, on my Komatsu D20, the problem was a clogged in line filter screen in the banjo fitting under the inlet to the lift pump. I cleaned out that little filter under the banjo fitting and installed an inline diesel fuel strainer under the fuel tank that I...

    d21-6 problem. Please help!

Glad I could help somebody. Seems like I made almost every mistake possible when fixing my D20. I dont remember what I have written about that repair, but what I do remember is this. The steering clutches are hydraulic assist. If you don't have adequate hydraulic pressure to release the...
