    Another Perkins Pukes

The bell housing bolted right up. I had to fabricate the front motor mount. Maybe your machine is differnent though since it is a different original motor. Good luck. My machine is still running strong. One other bit of advice; put locktight on bell housing bolts. Mine worked loose...

    Stablizer cylinder locked Cat TH-63

Well, I guess I jumed the gun on lock valve diagnosis. I switched the electcal terminals at control valve, and I got the lowered stabilizer up. So it is probably switch or control. I assumed it was air in the lock valve because I had just replaced those line.

    Stablizer cylinder locked Cat TH-63

I was using my TH-63 today, and one of the stabilizers locked in down position and won't lift. The cylinder is about 75% extended, and will not raise or lower more. Seems like the lock valve is set. I can move the machine if I tilt it all the way over, lifting the stabilizer foot so it barely...

Filled/wieghted tires or not, Cat TH 63 Telehandler

I'm replacing the very worn tires on my TH-63 and have been planning on having them liquid filled, same as the old ones. The Cat manual I have does not specify they have to be filled, it says tires may be filled if total machine weight is not exceeded. Old tires have calcium soulution, have...

Lull forklift hydraulic hose setup help

Maybe sort them out by seeing what happens when you use each control. For instance, if boom lift control now runs tilt cylinder, you have identified that hose. Go though them one by one and mark hoses as you go. Then re connect accordingly. Might take a little time to sort out, but unless...

    Telehandler chain inspection & lube

If anyone is curious, I think I found out how to do this. One has to remove the telescoping cylinder out the back of boom to get at chains. Kind of a pain, but better than having to dissasemble boom, which is what I thought I might have to do. The number of times various Cat manuals...

    Telehandler chain inspection & lube

Thanks for the replies. There are no inspection panels or access points. I can get a look at one chain with the back boom cover off, and a peak the other end of it from gap between the booms. Chain looks OK & somewhat lubed from what I can see, except a little rusty at both ends. The other...

    Telehandler chain inspection & lube

I just bought an old Cat TH 63. Everything works, and it seems to have been reasonably well maintained. One thing that looks like it has been neglected is the extension chain. With boom back plate off I can see from back it is kind of rusty, and at least it should be lubed. The maintenance...

An update on the above motor replacement. It has worked great, except apparently I under torqued the bolts that hold the motor to the main pump. The gap backed off and the plastic flex plate, or "flange" as Cat calls it, got stripped at the drive gear. Had to take motor out again and replace...

Bradco stump grinder for mini skid steer?

Hi, I am looking to buy a stump grinder attachment for my Ditch Witch SK-850. It has about 14 GPM hydraulic flow. I am considering a model made by Bradco, with the higher flow motor. Anyone have any experience with these? How are Bradco attachments in general? They "look" OK and are...

Thanks, yes, it took a lot of time, a lot of it figuring best route for things. Would take less time if I did it again, like any (hopefully) one off project. I did consider repositioning muffler and adding hinge height also. I tried to stick to the idea of doing everything as simply as...

It went in pretty easy, rear motor mounts bolt right up. I did grind a little off the top of bell housing so I would not have to move a couple bolts that secure the hydraulic lines. But after it was in, routing the exhaust was critical, as the manifold is on wrong side. Had to fabricate new...

    Another Perkins Pukes

Well, the new motor is in. It was a bit of work to get everything to fit, and the radiator door does not go down to its original position due to taller motor, so I welded on a new latch and put in a higher stop. There was not an upgraded flex plate for my model (226) but the old one is fine...

Good to know I can upgrade flex plate. I'll look for that, thanks. I think I nicked a few teeth when pulling the motor. This one has no flex plate, same spec flywheel & bell housing though. Exhaust & intake have to swap sides or be piped. Some other stuff seems like it will be a tight fit...

Bought a Mitsubishi S4S aka Perkins 804, same basic motor as cat 3044. There are some of these motors out there in the surplus market in this generic configuration. I know there will be challenges getting it to fit and not be too cobby, but I did see one mostly installed and working in...
