    I've had 3306s that had this happen in 100 degree weather and I just fixed the pump and changed the oil and rolled on...your filter looks good to me.

    Shock loading would be another issue, people tend to hit immovable objects in the subgrade from time to time...stumps, rocks, manholes or curbs plowing snow...chip a tooth and then that piece breaks another, plus operator abuse.

    It could be something floating around in your fuel tank getting sucked onto/into fuel supply line...then when you kill it, it floats and unstops the fuel line.
