    C15 turbo question

Actually, Nige, I am not really sure. The turbo on the machine does not have the same tag as the original (which is still riding around in the back of my service truck). And cat has no record of me buying it in the last six years. Neither does my Kenworth dealer. Between myself, the owner and...

    C15 turbo question

Still waiting to hear from the owner on this. I think they have a line on a turbo with a bent shaft and just want me to replace the hot side of the turbo. I am not really a modification kind of guy, but I was under the impression that there weren't a lot of options for tuning up a c15 with an...

I apologize for making the forum part of my couples therapy.

    3406 c misfire

I don't actually get a lot of that. But this client.... Yeah. And I have to say it just about always hurts my feelings. There is no manlier way to say that. I started this service about 20 years ago with my step father. This client adored my step dad and has always kind of thought that...

    3406 c misfire

I haven't ever heard that before. Or maybe I have... I remember that at one point early on that someone advised me to run a mixture of peanut oil and ( maybe) atf in my service truck. I think it had something to do with lubricity and ignition. Because modern diesel is a tad over refined. I...

    3406 c misfire

3ZJ45968 Think it is a C. If you are reading posts in the truck forum, you probably know that I did injection pump bonnet seals on this truck last month. And then had to re do them with the updated seals and torque values. The owner says it is misfiring now. I checked it out last week and...

    246b massive battery draw.

PAT prefix. Don't have the entire serial with me at the moment. Had to do motor mounts on it last week and fount the battery stone dead. Not just low but flat. Jumped it to get the job done and then went on my way. The next day they called to say the battery was dead again. So I went back...

    Cat793B

Yeah, I should have checked that before I posted. Honestly, this afternoon I was talking to someone about cat haul trucks and numbering and even then I couldn't remember what the payload vs equipment number was. Been a really long time since I was either an operator or a trainer. And I think...

Picking a NEW CTL, Deere, Kubota, NH, Bobcat, Cat?

I agree about the no def. I am not sure if that rules out Deere. I know that even the 331 is equipped with def. I would stay away from Kubota and (I know you didn't mention it) Takeuchi. They are the equipment version of Hyundai and Kia in my opinion. There was once a time when Case and...

I am having a real hard time getting my head around the idea that you work for a company that is large enough to be running a 130 ton haul truck and have a maintenance shop that doesn't care about differential cracks and a possibly fatal brake error. Where do you work? I am assuming a mine, but...

    Hitachi ZX130 LCN-7 sump removal

I would imagine. I had to remove an oil pan on a zx120 a few years ago because someone tried to use gasoline as a start aid and bent a con rod. That was a pain because that machine had a blade and it broke down with the engine bay over the blade arms. That was an Isuzu engine. But I don't...

    Cat d300e drive problem

Wow, really? So.... It wasn't a dumb question. If I didn't know that, it's guaranteed the operated didn't.

    GOT RUST IN MY TANK

That seems like a good idea, just strap to the bucket and shake it like you are trying to break mud loose. Sounds like you just designed it.

    GOT RUST IN MY TANK

Personally, I never use a pressure washer to clean a fuel tank. It might just be an opinion that I inherited from my step dad. We started my repair service together 20 years ago and he was a pretty epic mentor and teacher, I am sure that I have more than a couple of wrong ideas because of him...

    Cat d300e drive problem

Thanks, Nige. I am pretty sure that this is a dumb question. The operator said he thought it was a wire or switch. I have spent about zero time in the cab. Is there a function of front wheel drive? I apologize if the answer is in the pdf. It is still printing. I am also wondering how I...

    Zx120 battery charging problem

Will do, be a few days. I have a rock truck that suddenly is front wheel drive. Or always has been and they never knew until it got stuck in the same mud pit I did on Wednesday. I made them move it down the mountain and now I am wondering how I will know if I can get the rear wheels under...

    Zx120 battery charging problem

The ground cable is new, the old one got damaged by the batteries sliding around in the box. I will admit that the crossover cable is pretty suspicious and I am going to change it next. I still can't get my head around the uneven charging not depending on the battery position in series.

    Zx120 battery charging problem

All of the Battery terminals and clamps were cleaned with my battery reamer. Very clean, shiny metal and copper. All the cable ends and the surfaces that they bolt to as well as the ground were gone over with a grinding disk on my die grinder. I didn't bother cleaning the outsides. Hey...

    Zx120 battery charging problem

All of the connections are as clean and tight as possible. And wouldn't swapping the battery positions rule out a bad crossover cable?
