    Rope Shovel/"boom jack"

Speaking of boom jacks, has anyone had problems resetting the system on a 495 or 7495. One of our machines will not reset in the normal manner and as a result we have to call an electrician to perform his magic. As well, we have "ghost" boomjack occurances where the operator did not jack the...

    New Cat B series ART

We've had about eight months of use with these trucks. They are very operator friendly and have stood up well. The regeneration system gave some trouble, mainly with operators messing with the regeneration switch instead of letting the thing look after itself. We still do manual regeneration...

Old D7E. what are they worth and how to estimate pond job time?

One acre seems small enough that a dozer alone should work just fine. An angle blade is OK for landscaping, etc. But for really moving dirt the dozer on your 7E will really produce. I have operated 7E's with a 435 scraper and with a semi-u dozer. Loved them, great tractors!

Can Anyone tell who the builder of this old grader might be?

Pretty sure it's an Adams. The one I operated years ago had a UD 14 or 16 International diesel in it, started on gas and switched over to diesel. They had two small brake bands on lift gear box that if you didn't have set properly would mean that the levers would kick you hard when putting...

    my new D7E *pics*

Actually these old girls were quite comfortable when you tarped them in and turned the fan blades to blow the heat back on you. You could operate in -30 temperatures without your parka, just keep your hat on! With the pup engine they would start most days..and this was long before Arctic Oils...

    G series versus H series

Kinda like picking between Raquel Welch and Angelina Jolie! One's older but...well...pretty darn sharp. Same with those graders! :D

Becoming a Hydraulic Excavator Operator: Tips

I work with a company that has thirty to fifty excavators operating at any one time. We have been continually disappointed with grads of equipment operating schools. We prefer to hire experienced operartors or when time permits, train an employee who has worked with the company as a labourer...

Start operators course in 1 week !

Get every second you can in the seat. If a machine is free and you have access to it, get in it. Most schools are pretty shy on seat time so get all you can.

Need info on this Cat D7

Good machine by the looks of it. Great match with a 70 or 435 scraper. You can't buy much these days for 10 grand!

    In field repair and service

I have no end of respect for you guys that pull wrenches in the most miserable weather Mother Nature can throw at you. I have seen you guys in the Arctic fix the darndest things at - 40 or worse with the wind howling. Meanwhile office staff think itès way too cold to go outside for a smoke...

    Chinese XCMG and Luigong graders

I like the new controls. Very easy on the old body. One thing I donèt care for with the M is you canèt see the windrow by your front tire unless you are articulated a bit. Also the front end seems lighter than the H series. If push came to shove and I had to be really accurate on a grade Ièd...

    Chinese XCMG and Luigong graders

Serious construction requires serious equipment. Buying on the cheap means lost production, something you just cannot afford. Parts availability is the second major concern. Any oddball equipment that I have seen over the years always runs into a parts shortage. Iève been lucky enough to...

    Tts-14

Totally agree with ya qball. The company I last ran these for a hundred years ago took the rear muffler off so we wouldn't shift them with the rear engine at high revs. I can still hear that engine..but not with my ears now..if you get my drift! Next to Cat and scraper one of the nicest...
