How to Keep Dig Bucket Clear

As mentioned above, you're packing the bucket too full. Sticky material/narrow bucket you have to dig gently and watch how full you are getting the bucket. Once it's full stop before cramming more in.

Recommended Equipment to Clear Land for Silvopasture Cattle Grazing

A few thoughts on the cattle operation- Be mindful that the Highland cattle are trendy right now, while maybe not the same boat as true 'exotics' the market can still be tumultuous. I've seen this same thing happen over and over, Llamas, Miniature Horses/Donkeys/Cows, Emus, Ostrich, etc and a...

Recommended Equipment to Clear Land for Silvopasture Cattle Grazing

I know a lot of people like mulching these days, I'm old school and just want a nice clean, smooth seed bed to start a fresh stand of grass. I actually do quite a bit of work like you are describing, both on my farms and for customers. My method is as follows: -First pass through is with the...

    Genuine VS Chinese parts

I've had excellent luck with most durable goods made in Japan over the past 30yrs. Most of my small construction equipment is Kubota and have numerous products from Honda including two cars, ATV, dirtbike, many GX series small engines, generators, etc. Hondas are the only cars we've owned that...

    Genuine VS Chinese parts

That is often true, but there are subtle differences including the quality. Especially when it comes to tools there are multiple 'grades' of tools that may look the same, coming from the same factory, but the quality/features are worlds apart. Places like harbor freight are getting the cheapest...

1997 Ford LT9000 tandem dump truck

Lol I bet he got to where he was going, tailgate was ‘still’ closed and he was none the wiser. In all seriousness, if that had swung into an oncoming vehicle it could have been really bad.

1997 Ford LT9000 tandem dump truck

lol I imagine that's what most people would do. For the type of work I do a nice 4' tool box on each side, or tool box/fuel tank would be more useful. All that is on the drawing board, tires and hitch are next.

1997 Ford LT9000 tandem dump truck

Just finished my first paying job with the truck, had a ditch cleaning job and used it to haul off the soil/muck. Was very soft, driving the mini ex over the yard was like driving on a water balloon. Laid down 3/4 plywood to drive the truck on and loaded it very light, maybe 5cu yds or less. The...

1997 Ford LT9000 tandem dump truck

Yeah actually I'm starting to like the 9spd as well, its a very easy transmission to drive. At first I thought it'd be inadequate, but with deep axle gears it works pretty good.

Looking at Mecalac 6MCR - what to look for?

Complexity is the enemy of reliability. I think there is a reason you're not finding any long term owners.

Hydraulic cylinder repack: Do i need a new gland nut?

I had the exact same problem on several cylinders on my 480e. I put the gland nut in my lathe and made a very light pass with an internal boring bar to true them back up. I realize most people don’t have a lathe, but if you do it’s a really fast way to bring that bore back to spec.

Looking at Mecalac 6MCR - what to look for?

Looks like a machine that I might like to run, but not to own. All I see are big dollar signs and headaches in the future....

Sizing pull type equipment to crawler vs wheeled tractors

Yes and no, the benefit is it will be easier to transport and not tear up the driveway/ground as much moving it around empty. When I get enough used oil I'll probably fill it permanently, diesel is too expensive.

Sizing pull type equipment to crawler vs wheeled tractors

I’m well aware, this will be used only during the warm weather months and drained at the end of each job.

Sizing pull type equipment to crawler vs wheeled tractors

Thanks, thats my ‘big’ tractor on the farm, pulls the haybine, round baler, bush hog etc. It also has an IH 2250 quick attach loader. I’ve always like the 656/666/686 IH tractors. Those and the 3020 JD were the best 65-70 hp row crop tractors of their day IMO.

Backing up with drop down axles

Can't say on dump trucks, but I know on grain trucks I've driven the drop axle is 100% a hindrance when you get off the pavement. Lift it as high as it will go. Some of the old single axles that had a 'cheater axle' were even worse (suspension pushes down more as it's loaded.) Get somewhere...

1997 Ford LT9000 tandem dump truck

Here is the compressor: Hard to make out but I think the top line says: SS296 and the middle line is 3047440 S/N looks like 1D2496M45 How big of a job to change this?

Sizing pull type equipment to crawler vs wheeled tractors

Thought I'd update this thread. I pickup up a nice little 4' wide sheepsfoot roller today. Got a building pad and a road project soon that this will work good for. Just pulled it around a little empty, I'm thinking full of water it's going to be a full pull for the old IH: I need to make a...

    Favorite Phone Apps

None- I have a flip phone, I hate smart phones.... I have a NOAA weather radio, a Construction Master 5 calculator, and a paper notebook in the truck. All I've ever needed over the past 20+ yrs of business.

1997 Ford LT9000 tandem dump truck

Got the tires ordered, decided to go with the Hercules HMX, they should be here towards the end of the week. Also hauled first full load of 14 tons yesterday, truck did great. Climbs the hills as fast or a little faster than my F700 with 8-tons, so I think the power will be adequate. I think I...
