Cat 299C Park Brake won't release

Thanks, Nige. It's odd to me that the gauge cluster worked without ET intervention, but the creeper mode doesn't. Logically though, I assume the gauge cluster is just displaying readings that were already present whereas the machine would need to recognize the signal from creeper switch in...

Cat 299C Park Brake won't release

That would make sense. I can go to the creeper settings in the advanced display and set the parameters, but the speed functions just the same.

Cat 299C Park Brake won't release

That part number is for the module only. There is a kit which includes 4 screws, 4 washers, a creeper switch and the monitor. I ordered the other parts separately, though I've not gotten the creeper function to work in my machine. https://parts.cat.com/en/carter/264-8861

Cat 299C Park Brake won't release

That would be me. 264-8861 is the part number for the display itself. Carter Cat was able to provide a used one from their Salem, VA location I believe. $250. Give them a call, what do you have to lose?

    Cat 299C tilt cylinder bushing

Exactly. The rod ends and lower loader arm pivots are exposed to more contaminates/wear than any other pivot point on the machine.

    Cat 299C speed sensor troubleshooting

Duly noted. If it's too much of PITA, it may remain as a visual warning only machine.

    Cat 299C tilt cylinder bushing

Thank you again, Nige. No wonder I can't find that seam......

    Cat 299C tilt cylinder bushing

Rod end of the cylinder on my 299C is oblonged a bit where the pin goes through, and I was curious if there is a bushing in there? I've degreased and wire brushed it but can't see a seam or such. Found Cat part number 3K-2151 which appears to have the right ID and it's description references...

    Cat 299C speed sensor troubleshooting

No audible alarm at key on self-test. Anyone know the physical location of the squeaker?

    Cat 299C speed sensor troubleshooting

I verified last night, all of my indicator lights on the left hand monitor work during the self test at startup. And using a flashlight, it appears the radiator and hydraulic cooler are actually pretty clean. Looks like it's time to run it and watch the gauges. Out of curiosity, is there any...

    Cat 299C speed sensor troubleshooting

Last night (Key On, Engine Off for 10-15 mins), the only icon flash was the yellow exclamation point - no others. I don't recall seeing any other lights flashing when I ran it the other week and the fan came on the same time as the flashing amber, either. Will pay closer attention going...

    Cat 299C speed sensor troubleshooting

No, Sir. Last night when I got done, I looked through the codes/events and the only thing new was the E875-2. In response to your question above, yes you did recommend the O&M manual and I have one saved to my computer. Thank You.

    Cat 299C speed sensor troubleshooting

Thank You, Nige. All of the left motor speed sensor codes/events make perfect sense, that's the side I found abrasions on the jumper harness, etc. Have used it since with no ill effects. I now have gauges to watch the engine and hydraulic temps, so I'll keep an eye on those. Is there a...

    Cat 299C speed sensor troubleshooting

I was able to purchase a used RH monitor for the machine and installed it last night. When I cut the switch on, both gauges came to life and I was able to use the display to get into the stored codes on the machine, no ET programming was needed. I also installed the rocker switch for Creeper...

    Cat 299C speed sensor troubleshooting

It would be nice if the ET software/hookup wasn't so costly, I'd buy it myself. The software package I bought to talk to our Ford trucks was around $400 if memory serves me correctly.

    Cat 299C speed sensor troubleshooting

That's exactly what I was looking for, never knew Machinery Trader had a parts section. I saw in the instructions where it needs to be enabled in the ECM, looks simple enough. Local dealer is $160/hr and not the most helpful bunch of blokes....

    Cat 299C speed sensor troubleshooting

Thank you, Sir. That's simple enough, and would be rather handy. Actual temp gauges would make me feel a lot better, too. Do you (or anyone else) have any recommendations of places to look for used parts? This monitor in particular.
