    More fun on the Frankenmotor.

There is no question in my mind they were both (two different size and brand) automotive 12Vdc batteries. The machine is old enough that it has been monkeyed with previously, probably many times in its life. The battery cover is completely missing, there is NO red wire anywhere (I could only...

    They were in series.

    More fun on the Frankenmotor.

It is indeed a D3B Caterpillar. 12Vdc is all I can find as well.... With regards to markings on the alternator OR starter, there are zero stickers, stamped numbers, info plates, anything. Just a sanity check with the experts. I have already swapped the alternator and I KNOW it is now 12Vdc. The...

    More fun on the Frankenmotor.

All right gents (and Ladies), after squirrel'ing to another project for a couple months I have resumed throwing copious amounts of time at the Frankenmotor. The engine is completely together and ready to start. When I bought this thing, I was told it was 24Vdc, and it had two batteries...

Can anyone confirm the part number? 1980 D3B Injection Pump

Thank goodness......I was starting to sweat it! I found what must be the tool. Each of my nozzles has internal splines around the threaded part, so 8T-5287 appears to be the one. I've ordered from Cat and will pickup tomorrow. Thanks for the headsup!

Can anyone confirm the part number? 1980 D3B Injection Pump

So the pump needs to come off machine to change the bonnets? Any idea the part number of that splined tool? Looks like it might be the 8T-5287. Is that correct?

Can anyone confirm the part number? 1980 D3B Injection Pump

I'm looking for the caps for the injection pump that the injector lines screw into. The attached diagram from Cat lists them as "Bonnets", but the image Cat provides on their parts page looks like the other image. 7S-6683. The four on my injection pump are all chipped, probably due to over...

Couple of railcar relocation projects part 5...

Understood, unfortunately I only use Fakebook for Marketplace. Too many "Keyboard Commandos" looking for someone or something to fight with, or "post opinions as facts".

D3B with Cat 3204 Engine. (Newbie alert!)

Quick followup, I picked up the clamps and spacers from CAT and they are exactly like the photos you posted. Not sure why the image on the CAT site looks so different. Anyways, thanks again!

D3B with Cat 3204 Engine. (Newbie alert!)

For future reference: 9L8388 is the spacer and is the same part number. 9L8134 is the clamp and it has a new number... 1W2459 according to Cat.

D3B with Cat 3204 Engine. (Newbie alert!)

Thank you Old Magnet. I only had/have 8 total clips (2 per injector) so I'll be ordering replacements from Cat, and might as well get the bolts and spacers from Cat too. They are a few bucks each. Appreciate you taking the time to look up the parts, when I took the head off, the clips were...

D3B with Cat 3204 Engine. (Newbie alert!)

I think figured out the injector clamp assembly. Not only did someone have the clamps upside down, they tried using a couple washers instead of the correct spacers. Luckily Cat lists the specs of the spacers and I was able to machine replacements. The following are some photos I wanted to share...

D3B with Cat 3204 Engine. (Newbie alert!)

Alldodge, do you or anyone else on here have a detailed photo or exploded view of the injector "spacers and clamps"? I have scoured Cat Parts, my parts manual, and my service manual for correct spacers and clamps. The Frankenmotor head is NOT going back on this machine, I just keep finding one...

D3B with Cat 3204 Engine. (Newbie alert!)

Have you got any keywords I can search to find your thread? BTW, the connecting rods are tapered, although Cat Reman'd so that's a win! 0R0820 Nevermind, I found it! Thanks!

    308D CR Value?

I know this is a super old post, but it sparks my interest in that I have a 2008 308D CR with a Mitsubishi 4M40 in it (yuck), and often wondered what would "fit" into the unit with minimal modifications to replace the 4M40. This engine is a nightmare to work on as the valves are not field...

    cat 308d sb

I have the same machine and it does the same thing. Very annoying. Crawling up a hill is painful. It will kinda scoot in rabbit mode on flat ground, but I find I am always switching between bunny and turtle...more like snail...
