    Replacing Seals in Dipper Ram on a 2002 JCB 214

    Did this on our JCB 214 on a remote island in the Bahamas. Pipe wrench and a long bit of tube. I marked the start point on the nut so when putting back on and tightening you have a reference point. I have done the bucket ram, all the rams on front bucket and stabilizer rams this way.

    JCB 214 transmission

    I have a 214 series 3 in the Bahamas. That stopped moving, forward or backwards. Has a filter on side i of gearbox which was leaking fluid. Removed the strainer, via 2 bolts and cleaned, nothing in it, replaced filter. Filled with fluid and away we went. Perhaps I was lucky!!! Check electrics...

    Just pointing out that it can be done out of the workshop if you have some appropriate tools with you. Cylinder nut on the CAT was a tad smaller than 6" maybe 5 7/8"

I had a 48" pipe wrench and a 10 foot tube to undo the cylinder head, once it has cracked it comes off easy, I pulled the rod out and put it back on the pin on the boom and done the same with the wrench...

Got a 48" pipe wrench brought over from US this morning......12' metal pipe and a bit of strength and bang the ram was apart....hung the ram back on the rod and used same method to remove the nut on end....all in bits now waiting for seals.....ordered Monday, still haven't...

    Thank you all for your help. I cleaned the suction filter, replaced the oil and I now have drive. Only problem is I have a leak which is coming from the top of the gearbox somewhere.     Boom lift ram seals on a 312b cat

    Yeh I have a big wrench etc, the ram doesn't have a nut on but three cut outs around it. I was wondering if you needed a tool for that or just give it a good slap with a sledge and a bar in these cut outs to turn it?
