    Komatsu PC45-1 Questions

Its pretty easy to get apart, release all tension on track. It helps a lot to pick up that side of the machine when you are doing this, so you use the weight of the track to compress the idler. When you get the track off, just reach in and grab the idler assembly/spring right out of the...

    Diesel engine block heaters

I agree with PSDF350 on this one for a couple of reasons. First, if you plug your truck in at night, it is warm when you get in it. But when you work on a site for 10-12 hours in the really cold weather it may be a little tough to get going because like Ford LT9000 said, they tend to become...

    Rental/Lease/Purchase on Equipment

There are also some finance companies out there that will write up a purchase as a lease, then there is a $1.00 buyout at the end of the term, and then you own the machine. I have done this twice, and it has worked out well both times. If anyone needs the name of the company and a phone # pm...

    New Bucket for Mini

Fortunately, I have a friend who owns a machine shop, I dropped off the bucket and left him the 12 inch bucket so he can make the plates with the bushings. As far as geometry, breakout force, and weight wise i'll be ok. I also have a 40" bucket for it, so the 24" will be ok.

    New Bucket for Mini

Ok, My Komatsu PC-40 is ready for pins & bushings on the bucket, stick, etc. I have a 20" bucket on it now, and while it is in ok shape, I think I need a bigger one. I have a 24" bucket that was on my old Case backhoe and it is still in decent shape. I think i'm gonna make that fit the...

    tricks of the trade

One thing I do is grease the machine before I leave at night. I do this for a couple of reasons. First reason, it is easier to grease when the grease and grease gun are warm. Second, if you wake up late, you won't be that much more behind at the beginning of the day. Rich:thumbsup

    Mack 300 w 2070 trans.

I liked it, it seemed to have plenty of gears to do whatever you needed to. Even out on the open road, it seemed good. The truck I ran had a 300plus engine with this trans, 58 rears, RD688. Definitely a rugged truck. I would buy one. Rich

    Mack 300 w 2070 trans.

It's been a while, but if I remember right here's how to shift a Mack T2070. Without a load, range selector in direct, shift it like a 5 speed, 1st is down in the lower left corner. With a load, range selector in L,1st, 2nd, move range selector to D, back to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th...

    Mini with extendahoe???

The hyd thumb isn't a necessity for me. I have a mechanical thumb on my PC-40 and think if you have the right bucket on the machine, with long enough shanks, you can handle a pretty big stump or rock without even using the thumb. If I fold down the thumb on it once a week that's a lot. I...

    Mini with extendahoe???

In the spring, I'm going to get a new mini excavator. Maybe I am losing my mind, but I think I read somewhere that an extendahoe was available as an option. I don't remember which manufacturer it was. Can you guys help me out on this, or was I dreaming? Thanks in advance. Rich

    Scrap Metal Etiquette

I have been there. Was in the process of tearing down an old school to make room for a new senior center. All utilities were underground, all copper wire, water service, and ground wires for the electric service, interior plumbing were also copper. Had a crew of 3 guys and myself doing the...

Just want to say hello and tell everyone a little about myself. My name is Rich, and I'm from RI. I own a small excavating company here called Midstate Const. We generally do water, sewer hookups, repairs. We also do foundations, septic systems, and any other general excavating. I am 35...
