    Thinking about a CTL

Looks like the tired old W11 I used for years has finally bit the dust. Was spreading some dirt with it, and she was slipping pretty hard in reverse. Maybe something stupid like low on oil, I havent messed with it. But even if I get it running again, it's a super wore out machine. Started...

    Friction Crane Boom Down Issues-Again....

So I'm not gonna say that i move slow, but 3 years latley and maybe in the next 6 months i'll be working on this beast again..... Boom still doesn't go down, but it's atleast parked in front of the shop on gravel. So some progress....

2018 ACMOC show, San Antonio, Texas

I'm debating going, it's not too far for me. But I'll work Saturday, 12 shift in a heavy machine shop, so not sure if I'll have the energy to go Sunday. I'd like to though.

    Junkyard's work thread.....maybe haha

Wow. I think when the front end started coming off the ground that might have been a hint they needed to rethink their plan a little bit...

Anybody make their own cylinder bench?

Ok ill give that a try next one I have to do one. At work we've done some large cylinders, but generally we strap them to a table and hold the table down with a fork lift. When dad worked in an oilfeild shol they would anchor cylinders, connections, etx to the floor and pull on a 48" pipe...

    Pictures of my Tired Iron

thanks guy, it's very slow going and can be super frustrating at times. My goal for this year is too get all the machine tools, farm equipment and heavy equipment fixed. Or at-least in a position where the engines start....

Anybody make their own cylinder bench?

I've been wanting to do something like that for a while. But how do you keep from chasing the cylinder around the pin? It won't provide any moment reactions on the axis parallel to the shop floor.

Overflow. Took me about 40hours to make this part with all manual machines .

    Pictures of my Tired Iron

I figure I should give this thread a bump. Still working on junk, but with all the rainy weather we've been and as busy as school keeps me, it's slow going. I joined the FSAE society at UH. They build a 1/4 scale F1 car and race other schools. I haven't had much time to be involved, but for...

That looks familiar, I've got a 40ton P&H of the same vintage.

    Concrete Thickness Recommendation

What goes under the slab is more important than the thickness IMHO. I've got about 75tons of machine tools in my 40x80 barn on 6" of concrete. No issues yet, but there is about 1500 yards of fill below it.

Thanks guys. Yeah it's getting a mite cramped inside the building. I'm going to be doing a bunch of organizing in the shop tomorrow, hopefully make the space more usable.

Busy. Been on Christmas vacation since mid december and this is my last week off. Been working full time, so really not much of a vacation. And not as much shop progress as id like. But did get a little done. Moved the small mill and lathe from the house in Houston to the farm. And also...

    Favorite phrases you use

I've laughed at every post so far.:D One I hear a long time from my ex-merchant marine WWII vet friend about his Uncle. "He's so tight (cheap) you couldn't get a raisin up his A$s with a splitting maul". And, "he'd skin a flea for it's hide and tallow".

    New shop

http://www.parker.com/Literature/Literature Files/pneumatic/serv/TEC-15.pdf That's what google comes up with for pipe sizing for flow and pressure reduction. What pressure and flow does the sand blaster need? I'm at school without any engineering books, so can't double check their figures...

    New shop

Didn't even look at your location, yeah I can get why youd want everything inside in your area. The most recent layout your posted looks pretty decent to me.

    New shop

True. But to me, 14x14 doors sound way too small. I love my 16x25, especially now that I have a door in it and it's not just an opening. Being able to have multiple things come in and out of the shop at once is great. Doors can't be large enough. Something I'd also do, you have stuff like...
