D342 Head to Block Clearance - Feeler Gauges

TC, We aren't totally sure what happened to cause pressure to begin leaking into the cooling system. What we witnessed was that we started to see pressure build up in the radiator and the pressure relief valve on the top of the radiator would start opening. Our best guess, we think that the...

D342 Head to Block Clearance - Feeler Gauges

Here are some general photos and the best photos I could get of what I think could be the engine block serial numbers?

D342 Head to Block Clearance - Feeler Gauges

The engine is not a spacer plate engine based on what our mechanic is telling me and on visual inspection. I think that the machine has had its original engine replaced with a motor out of a genset or other donor at some point. Ill get some photos up of the engine torn down.

D342 Head to Block Clearance - Feeler Gauges

I cannot find the clearance tolerance for the flatness of the block to check with a straight edge and feeler gauges. Does anyone know what we need to have before reinstalling the heads so we know if we're going to need to deck the block? I've looked and looked for the engine serial number but...

B30E EGR Cooler Leaking - Replacement or Aftermarket Availability?

Yes. Detroit's DD8 is the same engine in these trucks. This is helpful for allowing me to go outside the dealer for parts. Thats the route I've ended up going down.

D9G D343 Pressure in Cooling System

TC, Pretty sure this failure was from improper shut down. I'm glad you pointed out the cleaning of the oil cooler. While its torn down I will ask our mechanic to pull it off and clean out.

D9G D343 Pressure in Cooling System

Chidog, I cannot make an argument against most of that you're pointing out. This machine is the definition of worn out and is very very tired iron. However, the replacement of the same machine with a newer one makes little to no sense for what volume of earth we move on an annual basis (X<600K...

D9G D343 Pressure in Cooling System

After some calls to different aftermarket suppliers I went ahead and bought two new heads. They weren’t too bad in comparison to what I was seeing from Cat. They cost right at $2,900/ea. they’re supposed to arrive next week.

B30E EGR Cooler Leaking - Replacement or Aftermarket Availability?

One of our newer B30E's (BAT7333 SN:8785) has developed an EGR cooler leak. I am being told this is a nonserviceable part. I called around to a few of the google hits on searching for "EGR cooler repair" and everyone I've spoken to have said "no can do". The engine is an OM936LA. I don't know...

D9G D343 Pressure in Cooling System

I'll have to give them a call and see what they can do for us. I have dealt with Blanchard Cat in South Carolina and they deal with a company I think also based in the Mid West that helps them to repair transmission cases.

D9G D343 Pressure in Cooling System

I intend to find out. I am curious to know myself. I am currently in the process of ordering a manual for the engine. Then I can have a little better idea of what is what on this old boat anchor. I also want to know the spec for straightness on the block before we sit the heads back on it. The...

D9G D343 Pressure in Cooling System

Excavator you were right, we had cracked heads. The silver solder idea is starting to sound pretty good based on the pricing I am getting back so far.

D9G D343 Pressure in Cooling System

Update: We sent the heads out to get checked over and we have cracks in both heads at the precombustion chambers. Working with Costex now to see about replacements. Nothing here in Atlanta available through Yancey. Only the Penn. Cat dealer Cleveland Brothers, has to reman units available for...

Pivot tires on a dump truck?

There is a company called OTR Engineered Solution in Florida that can build you a wheel to suit the need for any tire you want to put on there. Could be an option if things get to the point you have to get a tractor tread style tire on the truck.

    Komatsu D41P-6 Good or Bad

I tell you what, I’ll crawl under our machine and just see what she’s got and get back to you. Hell, I’m starting to wonder now.

    Sanny vs Kobelco

The local dealer here around north Georgia for Sany is Central Atlanta Tractor. They’ve been moving them too.We rented a 210 with a hammer and it seemed like a good machine to me. Now it was also brand new. I see them all over the place. I’ve rented a crusher from Central Atlanta a few times now...

    Bucket Teeth Question

We are die hard Esco bucket fans. Mainly for the ultra lock teeth system. However there is a premium charge to this affinity. We’ve had/have Hensley buckets but I am not a fan of their pin locking system. We took one Hensley bucket and swapped over the shanks to Esco. Are there any other...

2012 TA 300 off road truck

I’d call around and see if you can find a good electrical shop and they can either rebuild or source an alternative aftermarket part or figure out what it is and provide a new one. There are only so many vendors that make them ….

    Komatsu D41P-6 Good or Bad

No, not necessarily. If I can use the decelerator to come to a near complete stop and am on generally flat ground i shift directions without it. If I am on a slope then I use the inching pedal, at least that’s what the operator manual calls it, like the clutch that it is to better control the...

    Komatsu D41P-6 Good or Bad

We own one and have had positive experiences with it. I’m not a huge fan of the gear selection method of twisting your wrist to change gears but other than that it’s a good machine. It,lol keep up fine with knocking down piles brought to it by a few tandems or two, maybe 3, off road trucks...
