    Removing hydraulic cylinder for repair

I'm unable to access one side of the pin.

    Removing hydraulic cylinder for repair

My best guess is that the pin is stuck in the ram. I'm thinking since I have been using the dozer and lifting the blade it would be rotating in the pin holders and stuck in the ram. I guess the only way to tell would be to spend the dough for some hydraulic oil and fill it up. I could then...

    Removing hydraulic cylinder for repair

I have to say, I don't feel like any of those. I believed that this would be the easiest and be the best result, but now you are making me rethink that. Where can I find some info on rebuilding the cylinder? Will that take any special tools? What makes this pin so hard to remove? Is it...

    Removing hydraulic cylinder for repair

I have a D4H Caterpillar and need to remove a hydraulic cylinder that is leaking so it can be repaired. I'm stuck trying to remove a pin that holds the cylinder. I thought someone might have a good idea or maybe there are some special tools that are needed. The pin at the other end is loose...

Bad noise with parking brake John Deere 260

A little more on this problem. I have had John Deere check it twice and they tell me they don't see a problem and that's "just the way those old 260s are." That doesn't seem right. I have found that as I use it more I notice that the left drive stays very slightly in "gear". Either forward...

Bad noise with parking brake John Deere 260

You might try bumping the bucket controls slightly. I think it actually releases the pressure on the drive hydraulics so that once the brake is applied it won't try to fall into gear and shut itself down. I may be wrong.

    John Deere 260 series 2 - connecting a grapple 3rd (third) function

I have a grapple that I connect to my John Deere tractor. However, the connections appear to be different. Is this because the skid steer has a high flow connection? Is it possible to change these connections (shown below in the pictures) and connect the grapple without damaging it? Is the...

Bad noise with parking brake John Deere 260

I had mine at a John Deere dealer and they said everything was fine. I don't understand that, but I did figure out that if I make sure my drive was just slightly drifting forward or reverse and then just tap the lift or dump for the bucket, the drift would stop and I could engage the brake...

Caterpillar D4H Hard Starting, Limited Run Time

After many years of questionable service and fuel problems with my D4H, I finally found the cure. Just wanted to share my experience. I use the dozer on my farm so it doesn’t get heavy use. It worked great for several years and then I started having intermittent fuel problems. I would bleed...

Bad hydraulic leak - John Deere 260 series II

I blew a line while working yesterday. Dumped out most of my fluid but it was still mobile, just no hydraulics for the the bucket or lift. I couldn’t tell but I think it is a line that goes to the oil cooler. I’m hoping it will be obvious as I start to track it down. I need to know if I can...

Were you able to fix it or was it a lost cause?

Bad noise with parking brake John Deere 260

2003 John Deere 260 series 2 23000 hrs I'm not sure but I think I have an issue with my parking brake. If the brake is engaged and the control levers are pushed or even touched it will make an awful noise and kill the engine. I'm unable to get them back to "neutral" to stop the brake from...

Caterpillar D4H Stiff Steering on right control

My steering is still working great. I got access through the floor plate and then worked and sprayed everything I could get to. The main problem seems to be the bearings on the "cross linkage" shown in the picture above. It's hard to get to but be patient and may take some time to let the...

Caterpillar D4H Hydraulic Oil Temperature Light

I have not resolved this problem. Can anyone tell me where the sensor for hydraulic oil temperature is located on the D4H? Thanks. Ser# 45V66228 Engine Ser# 1CE02431

Caterpillar D4H Stiff Steering on right control

The stuck brakes was the same problem. Another cross shaft with needle bearings, I suppose. This was a little harder since it was rock solid stuck. But persistence paid off and now it is free to move and works perfectly. The cross shaft was located under the floor plate. Thanks to everyone...

Caterpillar D4H Stiff Steering on right control

I may have to drop it out (44) in the future, but I spent the day spraying it with WD40 and Lithium grease. I would let that soak for an hour or two and then come back to work it and spray it again. By sundown it was working pretty good and hopefully it will last a while. Thanks to everyone...

Caterpillar D4H Stiff Steering on right control

The picture did not come through. I am trying it again. The rotating linkage marked "A" seems to be my problem. It is very difficult to see, much less, remove. Is there a trick to its removal? Are there any suggestions? I would like to replace any bearings on this piece.
