Deere techs: what size socket for track bolt

I'd be willing to bet most of the 'American' tools I have were actually produced in China or somewhere overseas. I use a lot of Kobalt (Lowes)and Klutch(Northern Tool) brand and I'm pretty sure they are not manufactured here. I also have a lot of Duralast (Autozone) and Carlyle (Napa) hand tools...

Deere techs: what size socket for track bolt

I think a lot of those Milwaukee's, but the 1 inch gun I borrowed didn't even move the needle. My 1" air gun is supposed to have 2000+ breakout force, but it didnt do the trick either. Torque multiplier (no heat, no penetrant) saved the day. Mine's only 3500 ft/lbs, but they make a 6000 ft/lb...

Are there any horror stories about newly purchased dozers, then break down?

A neighbor and local dirt contractor purchased a new 2022 Cat d6. He has two or three d6t's. New d6 motor puked at 400 hours. Cat picked it up and put a new motor in it under warranty. He said it took about three months to get the unit back. Cat put a 'new' reman motor in it with full...

Deere techs: what size socket for track bolt

follow up: I used a 1:64 torque multiplier. It's the kind of gadget used to take off lug nuts on semi wheels. 3500ft/lbs and it spun the bolts no problem. The hardest part was finding a 1"drive, 28mm socket of the correct length (about 3" deep socket). I ordered one from china for $6 and...

Deere techs: what size socket for track bolt

Well, I found a 28mm socket (not very common) and it's a perfect fit. Bolts are relatively new and in very good shape and so I'm confident they have a 28mm head and are not a worn down 30mm. I have been hesitant to use heat for fear of heating up the pin/bushing seals in the SALT link. I will...

Deere techs: what size socket for track bolt

Deere 850J dozer with M19 track bolts. What size of socket or wrench? 30mm too big, 1 1/8 too big, 1 1/16 too small. 28mm? Any tips for removal? My 1" gun will not budge them.

    Probably a dumb question, but...

the specs on my JD 850J with 6090 Powertech shows max hp at 1800 rpm and max torque at 1500 rpm. The operator's manual says to operate at 'high idle' (I call this WOT) which is almost 2400 rpm. Why run engine at rpms past your peak outputs?

Gonna Buy a new portable gasoline air compressor

Well, in my case I only had 20 gals air capacity on a woefully undersized compressor so it didn't take me very long to go from 120psi down to about 50psi with a blow gun and then I'd have to find something else to do like grab a grease gun or check the stiching on my boots until the compressor...

Gonna Buy a new portable gasoline air compressor

The tag on it says 250psi max. Max bladder pressure is 80psi. I have 11 water wells on the ranch and most of them have a battery of 4 to six pressure tanks so I've got a graveyard of old pressure tanks (bladders failed) . They're good for bbq's, smokers, burn barrels, feed troughs, dock...

Gonna Buy a new portable gasoline air compressor

Thanks for all the responses. I'm probably going to over do it, but I'm going to go with a two-stage, electric start (because why not), diesel (it's going to set on the front of my fuel trailer and 1000 gals of diesel is only 2' away so why haul gas cans cans). I also have a 80 gal auxiliary...

Gonna Buy a new portable gasoline air compressor

Old unit is really too small for what I use it for and I'd really like the option of 1/2in hose . I mostly will use the new portable in the field for running a blow gun for daily maintenance and occasional impact gun for repairs. Air tool charts list min. 12cfm for blow gun for continuous use...

    JD 550J overheat

I had a 650j that stumped me for a while with the same issue and it turned out to be thermostat sticking shut/hanging up. Just a thought. There pretty cheap and real easy to change out.

    Active TCU Code Deere 850J

Solenoid ohmed out at 28.6/79F which seems reasonable with the specs you shared. Ran the machine all day with no active codes. 'Stored Codes' function shows 11 occurrences for this fault in the last 300hrs. I will trace out the wiring when I get the cab tilted. Is there any harm in running...

    Active TCU Code Deere 850J

850J dozer Ser. 169801. I check for active codes periodically and there was one listed today. It said " Cooler Bypass Sol No Response TCU 522451.5" Does anyone know what this is? As far as I can tell there was no affect on the machine while I was running it and there were no warning...

    root rake

What part of the world are you in? I looked at many/most of the commercial, 'off the shelf' rakes and ended up having a custom pin-on rake made for my 850J several years ago. It's 14' wide (wider than the blade) and has the same semi-u profile which really helps keeping things bunched up on a...
