    Working the National 1300A

Somebody forgot to put their beams out.... :) Its was probably the "don't block the driveway" nonsense. It always irritates me when they want you to bring in crane, counterweight truck, semi with a chiller unit, but "we need access for the customers- so you can't block anything." WELL...

    Memories for us old truckers

I looked at buying one of those railroad wreckers once, but there' s just not that many things to use one for. I've seen the holmes ones and P&H made one too, I think.

    Cam hook truss setter

It usually works out the same (time wise), setting trusses one at a time vs flying up four at a time. Unless I'm just laying them down.

The vanderhaags listing showed a picture of the dipstick, and it gave a part # of 136-4333, which shows as a good cat part number. It also showed "frequently purchased with" a new tube and o ring on the cat website. https://parts.cat.com/en/catcorp/136-4333

    Starting a crane service

You would have much more work with a boom truck as cuttin edge recommends. Spider work is super specialized and I just don't think you would stay busy with one. The spyder really shines in a area with a lot of large buildings with small access. Think of putting the crane in a service...

This will be an interesting thread moving forward......

Good thing you guys don't come around my shop, I'd be fired in a heart beat. I've always got a mess of oil, antifreeze and oil dri. I try, but I'm a pig. I will say this place has helped, in that I feel shame over my situation at times, and do better about cleaning up. But I guarantee my...

    Overload of the Day

Wife is in "spring garden mode". Evidently made a home depot run for mulch and had the honda loaded down when I got back from work today. I spotted the camber as I pulled in. There's probably 5 pickups setting at the shop. But she'll load the pilot to the gills and then complain that it...

    Cam hook truss setter

Most of the trusses I set are bigger than you can pick in a single point. When they are small enough to pick in a single point, the center is usually covered by a metal plate, and I saw on their web site - only supposed to pick on wood. Can't pick a double, can't pick a triple. Last week...

Newbie buying used Cat Excavator - Opinions, Recommendations ?

Last I checked, 15 head and 50 acres is not enough to live on as a cattle farmer. But I'm guessing this is a retirement hobby farm situation. And he's playing the 'if it costs $30k to get the work done, I can buy a $30k excavator, do the work myself, and resell excavator when I'm done" game...

    Case 580E problems

Take pictures of what you are missing and where, I have no idea if the housing you are talking about missing a plug in, is a wet or dry housing, but someone here will know.

Newbie buying used Cat Excavator - Opinions, Recommendations ?

As a "newbie" I guess I'll talk about heavy iron in a relation of odds. 50-60% chance in the next year, it will need at least $2,500 in repairs. 10% chance in the next year it will need a $20,000 repair. 50% chance in the next 5 that it will need $10,000-20,000 in repairs. 90% chance...

    Case 580E problems

You posted over in the "equipment wanted section", and just so you know, no one can reply in that section. You posted in "equipment wanted" that you are missing a dipstick and a drain plug. The plug itself is likely just pipe thread plug, but of bigger concern is have you been using it all...
