I have bought a 2014 CAT0259DEFTL06792, left joystick functions all work properly, right joystick functions nearly all work. When i attach the grapple bucket, the 2 open/close buttons wont do anything (no change in engine rpm. nothing)............. all fuses/2 relays are good.......... how should i start diagnosing this problem???...............THANK YOU...THANK YOU

Can you post a photo of the instrument panel in the upper RH corner of the cab please. You might have an optional display that allows you to look at Diagnostic Codes.

Unfortunately the panel in your machine does not have the option of reading Codes. We're going to have to do this the old-fashioned way - unless you know someone local who has Cat ET diagnostic software and can hook up to the machine and read Codes.

Speaking of ET it may be the case that the AUX hydraulics need activating in the ET Config screen. I'll have to look into that one.

Can you confirm that your RH joystick has a trigger on it in addition to the two buttons.

The fact that there are no warning lights up on the panel would indicate that there is currently nothing in the way of Active Codes. I was hoping you had the type of panel that allows the user to pull Codes, just to see if anything was there that might be related to your problem. I’m not sure that you need to haul the machine anywhere at this time to get the Codes read.

I’m more familiar with the RH joystick that has the thumbwheel roller for controlling the AUX function. Hopefully someone else with knowledge of how the 2 push buttons work will chime in.

As an aside, which hydraulic connections are you hooking the grapple bucket up to, the smaller ones on top or the big ones underneath.? I assume your machine is fitted with both sets.

Well looking at the operator manual it appears that the two push buttons are not for AUX functions. It appears as though you need a joystick equipped with a thumb roller switch like your other machine. Read on.....

NOTE: The relative positions of the thumb roller switch and the buttons can be reversed on some joysticks.

In the standard control lever pattern, the right joystick (2) provides work tool control.

If so equipped, the thumb roller switch (3) controls the proportional auxiliary hydraulics or the high flow auxiliary hydraulics if the auxiliary hydraulic mode switch is in the HIGH FLOW position.

The push button switches to the left or right of the thumb roller switch operate the work tool control circuit found on high flow machines. The top switch (4) activates the C+ function. The bottom switch (5) activates the C-function.

Auxiliary Electrical Control (C−) - This control provides electrical power to activate additional work tool functions using a three-position diverter valve that is on some work tools. Press the switch and hold the switch to send power to the pin (C) this action will activate the required Work Tool function. Release the switch to deactivate the control.

Auxiliary Electrical Control (C+) - This control provides electrical power to activate additional work tool functions using a three-position diverter valve that is on some work tools. Press the switch and hold the switch to send power to the pin (D). This action will activate the required Work Tool function.
