Hi there,
I am designing a pillar jib crane and I am using the factor of safety as 1.92 and service factor as 1.25. According to these values the diameter of the pillar results in a huge number. Which number should I use as a safety factor. Thank you very much.:Banghead

First, welcome to the forums!

I'm not sure that any of our regular contributors possess the engineering credentials necessary to give you a valid answer to you question. If I'm wrong, which I often am, I'm sure someone will speak up and prove it, and I'll be happy to know who to point to when similar questions are asked in the future! (And if there's a registered engineer lurking out there, please join the discussion--that's what makes the site educational for everybody.)

Have you tried ENG-Tips Forum? http://www.eng-tips.com/index.cfm

By the way, I looked at the ERG/Pİ MAKİNA website, http://www.pimakina.com.tr/, and it certainly looks like your company is involved in many intersting activities. Even if noboby here is able to help with your question, I hope you'll stay around and share some of your insights with us.

:)
