I worked for an outfit in the mid 70s that had a war surplus tank retriver for a carrier under a Madill 009 . a 6 cyl Hall Scott dual spark plugs ,giant saddle tanks to pack enough gas to make her up the hill. We had it in the town shop and got it ready to barge out to camp, its backfires were like hand grenades going off. We drove it on the barge late at night with a P&H shovel, some pickups and a bunch of new tools for the shop. Got word from camp a few days later the one of the pickups was gone ,the shovel was jammed against the side wall of the barge and the Madill was dragging its fairlead in the water off the stern of the barge .Sucked losing the pickup it was a1972 F250 4X4 that the gas mechanics claimed had been logger proofed and was carrieing all the the shop stuff, new enerpac porto powers ect..The only thing that saved the Madill was those big fat saddle tanks on the tank retriver, they molded to the edge of the barge and prevented total loss. probably squirted enough gas out to give the greenies a conniption fit.The west coast of Vancouver Island gets a bit rough sometimes.Sorry for getting off topic from Hayes.
