Made the 8+ hr drive north to St Ignace Michigan in the UP to watch the 16th annual Mighty Mackinac bridge antique tractor crossing. It was well worth the trip, lots of happy and proud ladies and gents driving tractors across the bridge. A lot of them had stories that they brought with their tractors, passed down through generations and such. A total of 1,265 tractors made the journey and some from as far away as Texas, Arkansas, and Maryland, just to name the few I heard in conversation. We took an Allis Chalmers 160 which my wife’s dad restored and drove across the bridge. Here’s some photos from our trip.
The AC 160 that we took up.
From what I’ve read, this is a very rare Farmall A&C used to mow between Christmas tree rows on a tree farm. Only 7 or 8 were made and this is one of only two left in existence, from Pennsylvania. Nice to have gotten a chance to see it in person.
The 160 making the bridge crossing. Five miles from shoreline to shoreline. I believe the total drive was 13 miles.
A very nicely done John Deere 4430 open station high crop.
There were definitely a number of tractors that you don’t see every day up there. It was nice to see so many people keeping their family’s traditions alive. You could tell some of those tractors really meant a lot to them.
