The newest mechanic is supposed to know how to weld. That trailer in the pic above was what he was welding on this morning. Evidently the trailer came off the hitch because it wasn't secured to the ball properly. It has bends and cracks in the frame. He had to leave ....so naturally I was curious about the welds he was doing.

Again----Mechanic/Welder in many cases means not good at either one. For instance,
I can weld mig-tig or run stick real well, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm a expert welder.
Too many classifications put to too many job titles. But rather than look like a fool turning
out messes like that-it's best to admit when it's not your forte'. I have passed tests for pipe
twice--but I'm no journeyman welder. Welding is like playing pool--to be real good your
probably doing it for a living. Some of my work below--I'm still not a welder.

It's becoming a constant in so many threads now.
Don't have an ego, if you don't have the ability to do something, have enough moral strength to say so.
Or if you do have a go, again have the brains and balls to critique your work and if it's not good enough then take ownership and get it done properly.
I reckon any decent person would respect that and probably teach you if you show the desire to learn.
