Truck shop's welds are actually pretty decent looking welds. It's not the fault of the welding machine for the %$#@! on that trailer. Wrong polarity is the least of the problem. Beads of silicon made to look like welds might actually be stronger. That crap might be the worst I've ever seen of what can be done with a good machine and a totally unqualified moron.

Right now, it looks like they are going to let me do the major work. Everything is a major for these 2 guys ..but that's another story.

What I have done this week..........
700K old idler.jpg
700K new idler.jpg
They didn't know this 700K had a bad idler. I noticed a loose track when I went to start on a roller. I contacted Alan by text, he asked for a quote which I gave, and he approved it within 30 minutes. I picked up the new idler, started about 10 am and finished by 2 pm. Made dam good money and a 1 day turn around.

I went out on an overheating roller yesterday. Broken fan belt....no big deal as this machine is relatively new and I found no misalignment of loose/dragging pulleys. After getting the belt and cover on, I started the machine as I always test my work. I noticed the rear drum was hopping as I was moving which it isn't supposed to do...and I saw where the main frame was rubbing on the drum.

The rubber drive mounts were broken (4 out of 6). They never noticed it I guess.......but this was hopping like a mofo so I don't know how you couldn't notice. Again, Alan asked me to fix it. Took me about an hour to replace them and have it out the door. Made dam good money yet again.

I did get started on the Sakai roller pump and motor but forgot to take pics. I have 2 rollers down that I am starting on today. Both electrical issues that LMM and TNG have been throwing parts at.

I’m hoping to learn something here. What was wrong with the idler? Was it a bearing issue or is the shoulder worn down too much? Others may see it right away but to my novice eye I don’t. Thanks.

They probably DID notice it.. but what were their options.??
Keep working OR take it in and have Manny, Moe and Jack stand there and stare at it for 2 weeks..
Believe me, they know how good they got it..
Clock in, drink coffee and kick rocks for 8 hours while u come in and do all the work..
You’re a good dude V.!!

Depends a lot on location. With good cables $750 wouldn't be a bad deal. I sold an equivalent Miller with cables for $900cad. I got a bunch of flack saying it was an old dinosaur and too big and cumbersome. However one of these old dinosaurs is likely to last another 50 years or more. Can't say the same for a small inverter. If you want a bulletproof single phase machine you can't beat an Idealarc 250 or Miller Dialarc 250.

You can’t really see it from the pic but the idler shaft and bushings were shot. Really noticable when it was still in the rail

I need to check if they are willing to part with it.
Thanks.
Don't discount the Lincoln Grey larger ones.
They are the big brother to the idealarc doghouse, and have much the same characteristics.
90% of them are AC/DC and those are single phase.
Most assume 3-phase so they sell cheap.

If DC only, these are ussually 3 phase, I have seen a few of them, but maybe only 10% of all of them out there.

He Idealarc TM series are good welders but very power hungry and not very suited to putting on an undercarriage to roll around the shop. An Idealarc 250 is 350lbs. A TM 300 is probably at least double the weight and 3 times the size. If you had a spot in the shop/garage for one they usually sell for peanuts.
