1997 Ford LT9000 tandem dump truck

We are also in the process of putting new drives on our tandem. Sailun 917, $4300 cdn all in. Lots of loggers have been using these with pretty good results and we had a set on our single axle dump a few years back. First time with daytons so put the first 2 on at home for practice…lol 11r/22.5...

    Different transmission configurations

Loggers here, typically tri-drive with 18sp.

    Different transmission configurations

New to an 8LL but seems easy to shift and really creeps in lo....not sure about our highway speed yet. Found the line set ticket and it shows a rear ratio of 5.38 (mistakenly thought it was a 4.xx)

    Safety BS

Momentarily unweighting a seat can happen really easily, especially as you say while turning/twisting in your seat to look to the side/rear etc. Ironically all the 'engineered' safeties have created a potentially dangerous situation...your last paragraph probably sums up the situation pretty well.

Welcome from BC! We owned a 773 Bobcat for several years, it was our acreage machine. The Kubota V2203 was a great engine. Ours was a similar vintage as yours with the same style boom linkage.

Kubota U27 and small jobs question

Your ripper looks really well built, and I can see how that would really improve stumping ability while putting less wear and tear on the machine.

Kubota U27 and small jobs question

Can you legally haul a 27 with a half ton? Just make sure and scale the setup to confirm....this will avoid any nasty (and expensive) surprises with the CVSE. If so then a U27 can still do a good amount of work, with the limitations that have been mentioned... As you say you could always...

Kubota U27 and small jobs question

Agree ^^^^ with all of the above. I think the U35-4 would be a great choice, in hindsight I would have picked it over the KX-040. Near the same capabilities but zero (or very close to it) tail swing and as a bonus no DPF to deal with.

Kubota U27 and small jobs question

Light clearing and stump removal can be done with a small unit, but it will be very time consuming and puts the operator and machine in very close to your work (think safety concerns). I have a lot of hours on that size machine, a couple of years ago I used a Hitachi ZX27 to open up an access...

    Strange buyer's

We also live in a rural area (6000 or so) with a larger town of around 20,000 within half an hour. In the last 5 years or so 3 large storage compounds have appeared...lay down crush, put up a chain link fence, and presto within a few months (or less) the compound is filled with a couple hundred...

    Looking at excavator.. e120b

We had a progressive thumb on our Hitachi 120; sure was nice for grabbing brush piles while nearly fully “stretched out”…less machine repositioning.

    Looking at excavator.. e120b

Fair bit of slop in bucket linkage, tooth missing (shank exposed). Really need to see the machine in person. Look close for any play in slew bearing. 5000h….highly suspect, as Nige says go by machine condition. Could be a good acreage machine, depending on price… video really low resolution...

    Giving warranty on used equipment

Moved our Miller Bobcat on a sheet of heavy plywood/lumber “stiffener” & come-a-long from the ground up onto the pickup once…just took a bit of elbow grease. Truck to truck shouldn’t be too bad.

    Deere 50D - New Owner

Pretty common; unfortunately people rarely seem to clean or check behind the covers…then the hard lines start rusting through/seeping.

Looking at dump trucks again, single axle vs tandem

We also do a lot of off road….walking beams/spring suspension were a must have. Looks to me you made a great purchase, Good luck!
