    Insley Excavator

No worries, I forget things all the time! people wonder why I spend the money I do on factory manuals and sales brochures. Information on old iron isn't getting any easier to find.

    Insley Excavator

No, not really true. In the manuals for my 1968 H875, they showed 2 options for engines. The first one (and probably preferred) is the 471 Detroit, the second one is a Cummins. I've seen late 60s & early 70s machines for sale with Cummins. I think that the Detroit engines were just more popular.

    Ford F700 '79 Dump Truck won't start

It's a 1979, Ford went to the Dura Spark II that year in medium duty trucks. Should be either a 370 or a 429. He has a manual choke, if no one has swapped the carb. Check all of the pigtail connectors going into the control module on the driver's side inner fender. The Dura Spark II's need an...

    Insley H875 Weight?

They probably started out as carriage bolts, but they now look more like roofing nails! I think the diameter on mine is roughly 5/8", but there is still a lot of vertical slop in it. My slack adjusters are almost maxed out. I damn near went through an entire case greasing mine the first time...

    Insley H875 Weight?

I have only ever loaded it once & unloaded it once. That's when I picked it up & got delivered to my house. I have considered bolting angle iron or channel iron onto the flat pads to act as pseudo grouser pads. Each pad has 4 holes drilled into them. Metalman 55, do you remember if there were...

    Insley H875 Weight?

Still runs very well. The only downside is that it leaks like a sinking ship when it hasn't been run in a while. I'm slowly fixing it, amongst my other projects.

    Insley H875 Weight?

I've owned it for a little over 2 years now. Someone before me got in there and did some modifications to the control levers.

    Pintle hitch height

Dump truck, no intention of hauling a load while trailer & equipment loaded. Here's a pic of the truck & (unfinished) trailer.

    Pintle hitch height

Springs. Trailer does have adjustments, it's at the highest setting right now. I'm thinking the pintle should be mounted an inch or two higher than the lunette, but I want to make sure.

    Pintle hitch height

I've got a 1979 Ford F700 & a 9 ton equipment trailer. I plan on hauling my D4-7U on this setup (dozer is about 8 ton). The trailer sitting level has the lunette eye at about 24" ground to center, unloaded. What height should the pintle be mounted at? I just don't want to drill a bunch of holes...
