Hi guys, long time listener (probably 10 years), first time member/poster. There seems to be a ton of knowledge on these forums and I was hoping I could get some input from those with experience here. I'm in upstate NY and have a tri axle dump truck, 20 ton tag, a 450 deere dozer and a jd310 backhoe, also recently bought a pete 379 road tractor that I'm going to get an end dump trailer for. I frequently end up with leftover material from jobs, and in many cases take the last load of fill at the end of a trucking job home. I have a decent amount of room to stockpile and was thinking that a portable shaker screen plant could increase the value of material I was already paid to remove. I also happen to be 30 minutes from the Albany capital region where there is a large amount of landscapers and related business. My thoughts were that if I got a shaker screen that's small enough to be moved by 1 ton pickup, it could be rented out to local landscapers for jobs to pay for itself when im not using my own material. Something small enough to be loaded with skid steers with one ton buckets, but still big enough to get worthwhile production where thwy would want to rent again. Has anyone used a box screener in the ez screen 600, or reed rd20 for example? What is real world production like? What are heavy wear items? Real world cost of ownership? I appreciate any input and insight, thanks guys!

Welcome (finally :) ) to the Forums PBE! Glad to have you.

The only experience I have is using a friend of mine's EZ Screen not sure which model but one that could be towed by a 1 ton and a single rear axle. He screened tons of topsoil and it made a a very nice product.

He fab'd up a conveyor to load dump trucks directly from the screen. One thing it did not like was wet material. Screening topsoil didn't seem to cause much wear and the little Kubota powering the shaker screen was pretty much bullet proof.

Production - If the material was dry it would process a PC 78 30" bucket in 1/2 minute or so. A full CTL bucket would take longer however a mini ex was more efficient to load it with since it sat in once place, used less fuel and didn't overload the screen.

That's about all the experience I have with one.

I appreciate the replies guys! It does seem a conveyer would significantly increase production, but it also seems that there is a fine line between easily transportable for the rental market, and too big to be convenient. On the other hand, the smaller ones may not pay for themselves, or hold up to high use in general. I may have to call some of the current manufacturers and see if they could hook me up with a customer in the state that's bought one so I could watch and get some first hand experience. The demo videos of all of them on YouTube show perfect world situations, with already great product going in, and brand new units. I'd rather see products ranging from good to bad being processed in a unit with 1000 hrs or more.
