I am appreciating a stump grinder more and more

I recently cut a half dozen 18" diameter maples at work because they were shading the tennis courts and causing algea growth. I debated on digging vs grinding and gave them a shot with our Cat 304 mini, I wasn't sure I'd be successful. I had to dig all four sides but I got them out and after...

    Cat Vs Yanmar

Dealer support is everything when it comes to machinery. If you can afford to wait up to two weeks for parts then it's not as important but most parts on modern Cat machines are available overnight if they aren't in stock, and that's at no additional cost. I own a single machine, a 248 skid...

I had something similar happen with my Cat 248, not sure if the 262B uses a similar engine. The crankcase breather had gotten condensation in it and that froze in a cold snap. The crankcase couldn't vent and gave the same symptoms you describe. I pulled the breather off and cleaned it, haven't...

3 axle gooseneck or 2 axle duals?

I've got a 25K capacity gooseneck on two axles. As mentioned, 3 axles scrub quite a bit when turning. I didn't want the hassle of changing an inside tire on dual wheels so I opted for 17.5 tires over 16s and am running singles. It was actually less cost to go this route too. I highly recommend...

    Flatbed dump for gravel?

It can be done, I've been known to improvise with what I have to work with. The flatbed will need sides as pictured and you'll have to overcome the temptation to overload the truck as the flatbed will have more space. Make sure the hoist has enough capacity as well.

    Ditching liability

Don't know your laws up there but here in NY the machine owner is liable for this sort of problem. We're required to have every excavation job marked out by a certified utility markout company. If the excavation contractor follows their guidelines the markout company assumes the liability for...

    Best attachment for clearing rocks

It doesn't look like there tension adjustment for the chain? It will continue to stretch with use and become worse. Being exposed to the elements will accelerate wear too. Couldn't hurt to put a tensioner on. My Harley Rake has a tensioner and the chain is within a sealed oil bath.

    Fixing rutted roads question

If what you're trying to grade is packed hard I think I'd backdrag with a very slight positive angle to the bucket so an inch or so of the teeh are penetrating and loosening the gravel. When you have enough loose material to fill with curl your bucket back so the teeth are no longer in contact...

No power on my cat skid steer

cjmac247 I see you're new here, welcome to the forums!! If you can be more detailed in the description of what you've got going on we've got people here who can help you sort it out. If you have no electrical power at all you may have a red main circuit breaker that's tripped, on my machine...

When scooping with the front bucket, how do you avoid just pushing it forward continually?

4 way bucket. Depending on the work you do. You'll lose a little bucket capacity due to the extra weight but if you do a lot of tight site work and get skilled your cleanup will amount to two shovels full.

    Cost of new pickups

The chip problem caused an availability problem which has driven up pricing along with other materials shortages. I've heard stories of dealers selling 3/4 and one ton trucks to the highest bidder and getting $15-$20K over sticker. I do vehicle purchasing at my job and I bought a 2022 F350XL...

    Air lift trailer ramp design

I can't tell for sure but the right ramp looks like it might have lift assist springs? Are they in good shape? If not the photos below are what I'm referring to. You can add several until it gives enough assistance to be manageable. I have them on our trailer at work, the ramps are almost as...

    Fool me once...

It's never good policy to allow your customer to set your pricing in any business. You know what your expenses are to maintain the track and you're entitled to make whatever profit you see fit. He says he's got another track? Let him go. I bet he's bluffing.

    Cat 350

That was my thought too Pops. He was just running regardless. After I posted I thought about what I had seen a little more and realized something else out of the ordinary had happened. I was on I84 and crossed over the Hudson River. They have an escort staging area where oversized loads are...
