    Moving a Cat 15 miles

Moving the Cat to work on a new MX track. Getting frustrated waiting for Ab. Transportation to sign off on my rezoning application.

    Long crank

Could be loss of prime. If it starts right up with a tiny shot of ether isn't too bad as long it is only about a 1 second shot. Best to spray ether when cranking.

    Moving a Cat 15 miles

I'm hoping to move it next week but it depends on the weather. Calling for heavy rain in the next couple of days. Driving out to the neighbours field was somewhat rough so I couldn't go full speed in 2nd gear. It was closer to 3/4 of a mile. With the extra weight of the hoe I'm sure the speed is...

    Overload of the Day

Leaving the scene of an accident too. The cab on the truck couldn't have more visibility! How can she claim she didn't see or hear anything. The cop must be a dunce too to belief her. All the vehicle owners should get together and sue her. Surprised it wasn't in Florida.

Cylinder rebuilt in shop in 2023 had rod nut back off during use.

I had the bolt on my Cat stick cylinder pull out and damage the threads in the rod. I'm pretty certain the bolt had been loose for quite awhile. I was driving over a hill and the bucket contacted the ground. Not real hard but I heard a bang and had no stick movement. Shop was going to make a new...

1999 Takeuchi TB035 slightly smoking after engine rebuild. help is appreciated

You want to work it fairly hard at full rated throttle for 20 minutes or so. Doesn't need to be constant heavy load but heavy load at good intervals. When I had my Cat engine rebuilt the shop said to work it hard right off the bat and not baby it.

Removing extremely tight cut off bolts

The Man Show with the jiggy girls on the trampoline was a great show!

    Moving a Cat 15 miles

It was over $900 to have it hauled. Roading it in 2nd gear would take a lot longer than 3 hours. I think the hoe on the back slows it down. To drive about 1/2 a mile to my former neighbours back field took 20-25 minutes. That was long enough. I think there would definitely be a lot of...

    Old conventionals at work

Curious what year it is? I'd guess a relatively late one. They keep it in great shape!

Can I safely use this hydraulic oil?

Girls will be boys and boys will be girls It's a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world Except for Lola Lo-Lo-Lo-Lo-Lola

Doesn't the brochure list the bore and stroke?

Removing extremely tight cut off bolts

I don't understand how they can make cordless have so much torque but with corded electric it's not anywhere close. It would be nice to have one but I don't need one enough to justify the cost. I rented a 1" Milwaukee and it had 1400 Ft./Lbs. loosening torque and I think about 1100 tightening. I...

    Installing track pads question

The pad was tight when I took it off and the bolts and nuts looked like they were just put on. Still oily. I couldn't find my torque wrench so I snugged them with about an 18" long bar and guessed about 70 ft./lbs. Tight but didn't reef on it. Then I turned them an additional third of a turn...

How did you like the Terex Scrapers?

Removing extremely tight cut off bolts

I think I used blue Loctite on the bolts so they shouldn't have been so hard to remove. My impact wrench isn't very powerful. I think about 240 ft./lbs. It was still nice after I got the one intact bolt turning. A high torque 1/2" or 3/4" might have got the other two out if I welded nuts to them...

Relieving hydraulic pressure when changing boom hoses

The JD swing motors look different from Cessna swing motors on Massey backhoes or Cat swing motors. I think Allis Chalmers used the Cessna swing motors too. As far as hydraulic fluid I hardly lost any, maybe 1/2 a litre at the most which is good. Usually I'll lose 4 or more litres when changing...

    Installing track pads question

It is, I looked at that. I could snug up all the bolts with my fingers right up to where a socket was needed to turn them. I watched video's where people put track pads on high track machines horizontally under the sprocket. I would think that would cause the holes to be a little off too.

Relieving hydraulic pressure when changing boom hoses

Yes, made in Japan. It's an 86 but I'm pretty sure Cat still offered it into the 90's using the rotary swing cylinder. I had to have the shaft built up because it leaked out the bottom. Apparently that was a common problem with rotary swing motors. The vane seals were still good and the other...

    Installing track pads question

I had to remove a track pad to put a sprocket weight on. The bolts were still oiled and like new but I put some more 30wt oil on the threads and under the head. The bolts all fell right through the pad and rail but I noticed the holes weren't lined up exactly perfect. Should I loosen them and...

Relieving hydraulic pressure when changing boom hoses

It's Cat quick attach backhoe for a D3B, 931B, D3C, 931C and also fits on some D4's and other track loaders like 935.
