    1984 Cummins L10 - Oil in coolant

I'm getting a bit of oil in the coolant. I don't see evidence of pressure or bubbling looking in the radiator cap. Is there a chance this could be the oil cooler? I'm considering bypassing the cooler for a bit. It's in a water truck that only gets ran a few hours each week.

    Cat D4H Brakes

No reason to apologize. Having a service manual is great for disassembly, and such, but there is no replacement for guys like you and this forum to get started in the right direction.

    Cat D4H Brakes

That's good to hear. We just went through the transmission linkage because one of them froze up and broke. I guess we should have went over the brakes. I'm not sure how many hours are on this one, I'm guessing 5K or so.

    Cat D4H Brakes

Thanks Nige, I was looking at the sections in the manual. That PDF you attached slims it down a bit. I will give this a shot.

    Cat D4H Brakes

I have searched quite a bit for issues related to this, but there don't seem to be a lot out there. We have a Cat D4H that the brakes seem to only engage at the end of the control. (Both the steering controls and the foot brake) They seem to be strong when the do engage. We have seen 1...

Cat D4H Fuel Leak - injector pump tach shaft

I keep envisioning guys with this fuel leak, that do have a tach, thinking they have a fluid filled gauge. (Off road diesel pink)

Cat D4H Fuel Leak - injector pump tach shaft

I had no clue it was going to be plastic. I just used the PN from above and this is what they sent, Cat dealer didn't mention any other options. It was only $4, prob the cheapest part I have bought for this machine.

Cat D4H Fuel Leak - injector pump tach shaft

We installed the new cover yesterday. We had all the covers off and the oil lines to the turbo to change the exhaust manifold, made it much easier to reach. The new cover is plastic. The o-ring fits pretty snug, it is on a round portion that sits inside the opening.

Cat D4H Fuel Leak - injector pump tach shaft

Looking at some pics on the internet, there are several of these pumps out there without covers. (You can see paint on the pic I posted above) I spoke to a guy who owns 3 backhoes with injector pumps that look just like this, none of them have covers on them. It appears that Cat is aware of...

Cat D4H Fuel Leak - injector pump tach shaft

I'm working on a Cat D4H that has an unused tach shaft on the end of the injector pump, there is no cover. (3204 engine) I have seen a few posts mentioning a 1/16" plug for the vent on other Cat models, but no mention of this model with no cover. I would replace the seal, but I bet the shaft...
