    My first 580SK turbo

Never had a backhoe with a turbo on it. Engine seems to run quieter with it. It was a 3 1/2 hour drive home, that's about as far as I will go for one, floating cost just gets too high. Shown here on Highway #41, she got a bird's eye view of all the lakes and hills we passed, through some of...

    Unknown backhoe id

Guys, I need help identifying this backhoe for someone. This is the only picture we have. It's a big machine and you can make out someone standing beside it. Looks like an International hoe and the loader linkage looks IH too? I though about Dynahoe also? Phil:)

    A good case for never-seize

Life without a backhoe would be impossible. I got the job of rebuilding these 2 cylinders off a Clark. Heat on the nut just seem to make no difference, they are a cast steel of some kind. Finally had to make a tool and use the hoe bucket to turn them, 1/6 turn at a time. A Case 530 draw-bar and...

    John Deere tractor backhoe

My son bought this wreck from a local farmer. I've never seen one like it, even has 3-point hitch arms tucked up next to the hoe attachment. Both loader and hoe are JD. Motor is gas and stuck, decal on block says model 1010, loader cylinders are missing. Pulled it home with Daisey. Hornets were...

    580CK, couldn't leave her there

Found a running 580CK in a barn, just had to buy it:). Seemed a good deal at the time but now I'm not so sure. Been working on her as time permits, but there seems to be one problem after another. The hoe leaked real bad, I decided to pull it off to get a better look. Picture shows her...

Cab only a mother could love

I saw this machine in an ad recently. Maybe the cab has a bunk upstairs. Anyone got pictures of a cab you wouldn't want to be seen in? Phil:)

    What's a 2-71 Detriot engine worth?

A friend has a 2-71 stationary engine for sale. Haven't seen it yet. It has a clutch and pulley, and runs. I'm thinking about $1500, would $750 be a good price? It has no fuel tank, so maybe it's out of a crane? Phil:)

    Daisey, my C4

Meet Daisey my Can-Carr(Tree Farmer) C4. Sounds silly giving a machine a name but they do it on boats:). She has a 1970 Chev 350 with truck tranny, currently on the diesel transplant list. Working in a swamp, with excellent ice conditions. The chains are off to protect the thin ice from...

    Excavator wreck

There is something about machine wrecks that catches one's interest. This one at a spice plantation in Grenada. They were trying to sell the 600 acre property for $25 million, maybe they would throw the machine in with the deal:). Phil

    Case 480D dies burying goat

I went with my son to look at a 480D, that developed a bad motor knock, while burying a dead goat. Perched on the edge of a huge hill all summer, it did start finally. Blowby didn't seem too bad but I didn't run the engine too long. Seemed to be missing and had no power, but I did get the...

    Allis Chalmers backhoe

Anyone out there own one? They are scarce as hen's teeth up here. Once in a while I see one for sale and was wondering about parts availability for the drive train. The later model wasn't a bad looking machine. Phil

    580K valve spool question

Has anyone ever replaced the spool seals on the backhoe valve assembly, while still in place? I have several leaking at the top where the control rods attach. Lifting the rear window and removing a small plate gives good access, but underneath the valve body is not so accessible. Phil

    Ditch Witch backhoe

Needing advice on this one. Can't make up my mind if I should buy it or not. A friend offered it to me for $2500. It's an R65 4x4 model with 6 way blade and Wisconsin V4 gas engine. Originally had the hoe on the front and a trenching attachment on the back. Owner put the hoe on the back...

Fordson Major with Case hoe attachment?

I've been thinking about buying this tractor from a friend and putting my model 33 hoe on it, from a 580CK. I think the tractor would handle the weight. The tractor has the hydraulic pump mounted way out front which is a plus. Also the loader works very well and there is a bucket for it. However...

    International resurrection

For the IH fans, here's a latter model hoe, probably one of the last backhoes they made. Started a few days ago by getting a used engine block and crankshaft. The block turned out to have a lot of damage from a spun rear main thrust bearing. Would have required major machining, probably...

    Case model #33 hoe attachment

I picked this up yesterday for $1000. I think it was off a crawler loader or other machine that required the operator to sit up that high. Got an extra dipper cylinder for it. Hoping to mount it on a tractor someday. What do you think? Phil:)

    Tools of mass destruction

We have all done it, used whatever means possible, however crude. Here is my leaky 680B outrigger cylinder. Couldn't get the gland loose so I welded a piece of heavy angle iron to it, then heated the tube red hot. She finally let loose, then I had to use the forklift to pull it apart, the rod...

    International calender

As a boy I used to look up at this in the old shop and dream about how exciting it would be. It says "TD24 pushloading 75 Payscraper" . I've never in all my travels saw a 75 Payscaper , maybe all of them are scrap now. I had it covered and it now hangs in my shop. Phil:)

    A/C backhoe anyone got one?

I've only seen 2 in my travels, there can't be many in the country. Has anyone out there run one of these, or has a picture? Curious...Phil:)

    Backhoe prices at auction

A chap was telling me recently that he went to a richie sale in Maryland and they were practically giving them away. He bought a JCB with 250 hours on it for $20K and brought it back to Canada. I think he said there were over 75 backhoes there and the cats with 500 hours on them were selling for...
