Hi All
Yesterday I bought a 1984 international truck with a DT466 engine and an automatic transmission with air brakes.
My question is it has a rear end unlike anything I've ever seen before so I was just wondering what the story was on it...
I'm familiar with what a standard rear end looks like, I know what a two-speed rear end looks like with the shift motor and all this particular rear end is unusual in that it has a large rectangular piece I should say in front of the normal round looking housing ...
My question is is that some sort of potential shift mechanism I don't see any linkages or anything going to it to indicate that but I just got it yesterday and it was dark and I happen to notice that it looked a lot different than any rear end I've ever seen before so I was wondering if anybody could shed some light on that for me .
There was a tag on it but it was kind of beat up and hard to read I'll try to put that on here also
Anyways thanks in advance for any and all help the weird thing about this truck also is the title doesn't have the GVWR of the vehicle and on the plate in the door I think the previous owner said it didn't say anything about GVWR also
So out of curiosity how would that be handled or could that be handled ... Meaning how would I determine what the GVWR on the truck is? I don't have a CDL so even if it's built super heavy which I think it is does that mean I could just say the GVWR is 26,000 pounds and be good and then in the future if I decide to haul more I could just say oh the GVWR is 31,000 or whatever so I can haul more weight? Of course I understand that my axles would have to have the appropriate rating and such but that's what I was asking about earlier also as to why this axle looks so much different than anything else I've ever seen maybe it's ultra heavy duty?
Thanks and I'll see if I can attach some pictures
