Truck is coming up for sale at a ritchie bros auction, and the engine compartment pictures caught my eye. Its got a 60 series detroit, at 470 hp.

Seems someone removed the air to air and just has it piped over turbo to intake.

What kind of Hp loss are we talking by not cooling the air? I'm not seriously interested in the truck or anything, especially if the former owner couldn't even replace the air to air. Just curious how well it would run like this.

Kind of smells like an owner operator that thinks he knows more than the engineers. Either that or he didn't have the money to replace the intercooler so just did away with it.

Figuring the age of the truck and those CAC's had a average life of 8 years you can
make a safe bet it was pretty well cracked out. $1,600 from PacCar. But It's better the
way it is now than before because at least it has boost and the loss of boost caused
high cylinder temps too.

I wonder what kind of truck it is in, if its last stage in life was to move things around a yard or plant where it would not see full power very often or very long so it really did not matter much, or if the rest of the truck was not worth the expense of the new CAC and they did not really care what happened to it.

12 front, 34 air ride rears, day cab, wet kit on a 9 spd. Day duty in town construction company and likely abused or shot gunned its entire life.

A HNC mechanic did the CAC upgrades.
