hey guys,

Got the g00680889 cat warning light that popped up on the control panel. Anyone know how to access the diagnostic codes? I’m told there is a procedure. The warning light is on the computer. Engine fault. Everything is running normal (as far as I know), Fluid levels and temps are good.

Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply.

One other issue I had, when the hydraulic lock is in down position , even Just after warming up and a couple minutes of use (so cold start), if you have the CAT at low idle, the computer display flashes and says “Increase Engine RPM” (or something along those lines).

Then when in not in use, with hydraulics control in up position, the engine will increase on its own to full RPM. (Even without that warning showing on the display). The only way to decrease RPM is to use the hydraulics by lowering the hydraulic lock in the cab. Then it returns to normal. Any ideas?

I would guess that it is emissions related. These things with emissions do not like to idle or be run with little throttle. Run it full throttle and never let it idle. If you have an operation manual it should tell you what it should and shouldn't be doing for the emissions...

Thank you. Will look into that. NIGE or others, if there is no code coming up on the CAT ET, would the ET system enable to do troubleshooting such as “runaway idle” then lost potential solutions? Or is CAT ET just for reading the diagnostic codes etc

Have you actually had Cat ET hooked up to it, or are you simply asking what-if ..?
The Customer version of Cat ET can read Diagnostic Codes, do calibrations, etc, etc. Only the dealer version can upload new software into electronic controls.

Simply asking “what-if”. Can the customer version clear codes once work fixed? What exactly do you mean by “new software”

Thanks for quick reply.

As I recall there is an automatic warm up feature in some of the Cat machines. Again as I recall, those machines use a passive regen mode for clearing the particulate filter. You don't have to stop the machine for regen, just keep working it and it will take care of itself. An operation and maintenance manual would explain all those functions to you.

Customer version of ET can clear codes once fixed.
“New software” means any time software has to be uploaded. Two obvious examples would be if an ECM failed (new ones are blank), or if updated/improved software becomes available. Dealer version of ET is required to upload the software in both cases.

Good point from John C about a Manual. Do you have one..?

Great thanks for the reply. And yes, I have a printed version of the Operations & Maintenance as well as a printed version of the Parts Manual.

Helo to every one can you help me what is the meaning of this indicator warning light cat308E2,
There are no less than 17 different flavours of 308E2.
Can you supply a Serial Number to narrow it down a bit.?
Also what is the current hourmeter reading.

Off the top of my head I'm thinking that it could be an exhaust aftertreatment system issue.
