Bomag BMP851 Charging System

Can some one shed some light on how the charging system works and how to diagnose it on a Bomag BMP851 walk behind/remote controlled roller? It has a diesel, not sure if duetz or hatz, i know its not a kubota.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
