Case 580CK fuel filters

I had Napa fuel filters on my tractor when I bought it. Getting new ones and the Case p/n A35863 is a wound string type cartridge that’s about 2 3/4” tall. The Napa 3516 is a metal cartridge that’s only about 2” tall. The dealer says they cross-reference. How can they both fit when they’re different sizes?

Dealer tells me to soak the string filter and crush it in there. Is that right? It just seems too tall.

Could you post the tractor serial number ?
Assuming it has the original motor in it.

The tractor serial is 8312830 and the engine serial is 2628105.
