There are two different functions being discussed here -
1) Bucket leveling or anti rollback - mechanical function
2) Return to dig - electrical function
Bucket leveling only works while the loader is being raised. Mechanical linkages automaticaly roll the bucket forward as the loader is raised to the maximum height. This prevents material rolling off the back of the bucket & on to the bonnet/ windscreen of the machine. As the loader is lowered, the operator must manually roll the bucket back to the level or fully rolled back position.
Return to dig, uses a magnetic detent to roll the bucket back to level,
after material is dumped, as the loader frame was lowered, with the aid of a proximity switch on the loader frame. - Most of these stopped working on 580E's while they were still under warranty & most operators never bothered to repair them. I would be very surprised if this feature was still functioning.
So, Jerry11 - what you are describing is exactly what the machine was designed to do.
