case 580se no start

i just bought this case 580se about a month ago. was setting over 6 years. it has always started right up. I've replaced a lot of things as i expected. nothing works on the old dash, so i replaced it. but i have not finished wiring it up. yesterday i was moving so dirt, every thing was fine, when i shout it off i seen a lot of water on the ground, and yes the machine was hot. today i fixed the problem but it would not start. when i shot fluid to it, it would start then die. its like no fuel. i checked filter and tank, there is plenty of fuel.
i have no idea what's wrong, I'm hoping you all may know.

Disconnect the hose on the other side of the filter and see how much fuel runs into a container. Is it just one gush or good strong flow. Does your unit have an electrical fuel solenoid, if it does is there power to it with the key turned on? Is the fuel tank full, how old are the fuel filters. A guy just old me the other day a wheel loader would not run, changed fuel filter ran for 1 minute and no more run. Did 2 days of testing to find out the new filter got a gulp of water, and was plugged also.
They paid out $2000 labour to find out no fuel coming out of new filter. Would of paid for a few filters.
Blow back to tank from return fuel line.
Check all the fuses as a solenoid could start to ground out and cut off a fuse.
Put a Rag Ball over the fuel filler while putting 2 PSI of air to the tank while checking for leaks at filters and fuel lines.
Fix any leaks as they will suck air.
If you have any banjo bolts on the side of fuel pump, does one have a plugged screen in it.
Could your transfer pump on side of block have a screen inside that is plugged.
Lots of things to check. Or call a mechanic to check before firing the parts cannon.

i have checked the shout off solenoid there is power going to it. i believe I'll get a new one, its in one heck of a place to get to.

That’s odd, on my Case 580 SE, it’s very easy to get to the shut off solenoid.

This unit is a early 1983. It does not have a torbo. It's a se by the model #, but it's more like a e model
The wire going to valve was hard so I replaced it
By the cab the wire was bare about two feet from being hot. I'm sure this was part of the problem

well i got it running, had to replace wire to fuel shout off solenoid. after a lot of checking i realized there was no fuel coming from the tank. i shout air to the tank line. fuel started running and it started right up. i guess my next job will be removing the tank and cleaning it out.

My SK was standing for a long time.I recently flushed the diesel tank out,things resembling plastic snake skins came out.Hopefully all the crap is out.

Post #2 above I said all about checking and blowing the fuel tank lines. Glad you got it started, with multiple problems. Not uncommon to have more than 1 thing wrong.

Watch out, when you pressurized the tank any crud blocking the lines was sent to your fuel filter. It's usually better to blow the line back to tank

A blow back to tank will fix the problem till next time. A pail vacuum set up with a plastic pipe to bottom, will get the garbage off the bottom, which could be anyones guess how much. Otherwise first time tank goes low, the sloshing of fuel or a fast fill up will break it all loose. Clean the tank and keep it clean is the better solution as Nige would say.
If you disconnect the line at filter and blast with air from the tank into a white pail you will have a good idea how dirty the bottom of the tank is. You can then base your decision for what to do on that simple test.
As soon as you have your new batteries in place make sure to test from the negative cable to the battery negative to see if there is any parasitic load. Don't want to kill good batteries.
Check the other items I mentioned in Post #2.
