The fuel solenoid on my 2000 248 will not energize in the "Run" position. It opens in "Crank" but stalls as soon as the starter is released. I've figured out that the white wire to the solenoid is the one that should be charged, but it disappears into the wiring loom never to be seen again. Does anyone know the source of power for this wire, and does it run through any safety switching? Better yet, does anyone have an electric schematic for the 248? Thanks!

Let's try this again. This had happened to me once before when I had raised the cab and pressure washed under it in the chassis, the machine would pop while cranking yet wouldn't run. Apparently the "Run" power source had been shorted by the water. At that time I looked at the fuel solenoid and jumped a power source to it which allowed the machine to run but literally smoked the solenoid after a few minutes. As I remember that was a pretty costly mistake, the solenoid was pretty expensive to replace. I don't recall now which wire I bypassed, the start or run circuit. Ultimately, I had to let the machine dry out to solve the problem.

Can anyone explain to me how this solenoid might work? There are three wires running to it, red white and black which I assume are run, start and ground, not necessarily in that order. Can I run a secondary power source to it to get the machine to run without burning up the coil? Better yet, back to the original question, does anyone know the source of the run feed on a Cat 248 or 246?

Just missed that. You are right red is run, white is pull. You should be able to apply battery voltage to red wire constantly. However, if you apply it constantly to white wire it will cook the solonoid. When you get the schematic you will probably find the red wire coming from a relay as hatch was thinking. Good luck.

Thanks! So could I throw a jumper wire to the red lead to get the machine home? It's at a buddies yard nearby bt would be more convenient to have home.

Steve is that a external solenoid hooked up to linkage and lever if it is throw a bunji cord on it and fire it up you could try jumping it but Id just tie it off and go had one on a cummins in a motorhome that tried to strand us one day that would gradually start easing out while your going down the road and start loosing power that was not a fun day for a day off kept thinking it was fuel system problem as you would cut it off and crank it back up and it would pull all the way back in till you got going down the road again:beatsme

I'll have to look closer but I don't remember there being a manual override for it. I know what your talking about, I've done that many times on other machines and trucks.
