Can someone interpret a serial number for me. Just bought D7G serial number 92V 8493. Arrangement number 8P5458. What is build date? Just curious why this dozer has wire screen hood instead of solid metal hood. The engine sidecovers are also wire screen. Look to be factory covers but have screenwire.

The 8P1082 cast on to the Cage identifies it as a Cat #57 Winch.

There are 3 Serial Number prefixes for #57 winches; 29U, 30U, & 31U. Of those 29U is the most likely as it is the only one listed as having been fitted to 92V-prefix D7G tractors.

All three are covered by the same Parts Manual UEG0587S.

yes Cat 57 winch. the 3 different serial numbers cover fitment to powershift or direct drive D7G and a low speed winch version. All 3 have different gear ratios. rest of internals are the same. Not as solidly built internally as a Hyster or Carco winch. Input clutch is usually first thing to give trouble in them.
