WANTED FOR RESTORATION
Parts manual, service manual, hood cover, radiator core, pony engine starting crank, carburetor and magneto and any other parts that might be for sale for CAT Diesel 40 Serial Number 3G1720. Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated.

Caterpillar did not publish a service manual for these tractors , there is a Diesel Reference book for the early machines, the operator & parts manuals are getting scarce. There is wealth of information on the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club (ACMOC) web site. You will have to join the club, well worth the fee, have been a member since 1991,Had a early D40 3G 570, a lot of cat rd6 parts are compatible, rad, starting engines, hoods etc

Cat still offer Parts Manuals online, but maybe with the Publication reference you can find it cheaper elsewhere. The reference below covers your specific Serial Number 3G1720.
