Our TD7E is a late model (Serial Number > XXXXXX9501) with the small transmission. Since the tranny and the torque converter are above the suction filter, will removing the suction filter housing to clean the suction strainer cause the loss of tranny/torque converter fluid?

Not being familiar with the TD7E, however by your description I'd estimate; Yes a lake of oil could form fairly promptly.

There is discussion in this forum about a vacuum tool to keep the oil in the housing, but it may not be suitable for your machine?
