Could someone please inform me on the correct Cat hydraulic filter part number that would fit my D4D serial number 78A4415? That would be much appreciated.

Sorry can't help you because your machine is too old to be in the online system.

TBH you really need a Parts Manual for a machine from that era. You can find one HERE, enter as a Guest and search for UE035100. The illustration below should pop up.
If you want to look elsewhere you may find a used paper copy somewhere, like this one

It would help if you advised the model number of the hydraulic system (141 or 143?), and the hydraulic system serial number, which will be on a small aluminium tag located on the hyd tank.

You will not be able to acquire the correct filter until you have the hydraulic system serial number, because there were a range of hydraulic systems fitted to the D4D's - as well as filter part number/design changes.

The tractor parts book contains no hydraulic system information - this information is supplied in a separate "Cat 141, 143, 151, 153 Hydraulic Systems" parts book.

Your hyd system is likely to be a 54G or 62G prefix. Once you get the hyd system serial number, compare it to the serial number range on the parts page to get the correct filter.

The hyd system info is on the page linked to below. Look for the line that says "for full view, you need register". Ignore the "register" part, you don't need to, just to view the parts book pages.

Below that line you will see headings such as "141 58E (1958)" and "141 54G (1964)" and 141 62G (1963)". Click on the hyd model and serial number prefix that matches your system - then look for either "TANK GP" or "FILTER GP".

Clicking on "TANK GP" or "FILTER GP" gives you the parts pages to suit the model. Click on the parts diagram and they will enlarge - then there are arrows to the left and right of the parts diagrams which enable you to scroll through the parts pages.

At a quick glance, there appears to be at least 3 different filters, according to model and serial number range.
They are;
4J816 (written as 4J0816 for the parts interpreters)
2J6 (2J0006)
1S9150

These numbers are possibly now obsolete and have likely been replaced by later numbers and better filters, but the parts people should be able to cross reference the numbers.
