D7 17A transmission intake screen location

While serving my newly acquired D7 17a 12xxx with manual trans. Both quick service plug and bevel gear transmission plug magnets seem to have quite a bit of debris stuck to them and the filter was dry. Slightly wet on the lower half, but definitely not circulating fluid like it should after two hour run time.

I opened the filter to find some fine metal and orange RTV gasket maker chunks which leads me to believe an intake screen might be plugged.

Does any one know where the transmission intake pickup for a 17A is, or if it has an serviceable screen?

There are 2 pickup bells one in the transmission and the other in the bevel gear case.
I believe you have to pull the transmission to remove the pump.
