Hey guys. Have an old d7 dozer I’m working on at the moment. Have no way of identifying the model or serial number. Can’t find an id plate on it anywhere and the model letter is also not on the sticker. Wondering if anyone can help by looking at these photos. Cheers IMG_2262.jpegIMG_2245.jpegIMG_2246.jpeg

My guess it's an early E series. Is it direct electric start or got the pony motor?

Check rear near by ripper mount should be stamped in case. only thing is if ripper was installed after it was originally built it might be under ripper mount.

This has the 4 cylinder engine which was the last series to use it. The next series F and G all had 6 cylinders engines. The early E series had the blade and ripper control levers working horizontally and was changed later to vertical on the later tractors of the same series. Worked them both as a young feller when they were reasonably new in the late 60s.

G..G..G..Granville.........!! Fetch your cloth.
If you have been looking for a S//N plate could you have missed the two pivets that might still be there if the plate went AWOL.?
Here is a photo of the back end of a 955L where the rivets are clearly visible. Some paint remover and sandpaper revealed the S/No stamped on the rear case right between the two pivets. Why not go looking in the same area on your tractor.? You have nothing to lose.

Thanks everyone. Found the right parts manual for a 48a. Although the manual is only for the tractor and shows no other components. Is anyone able to search part no. 2j-5808 I’m looking for the part number of the bolts that hold it to the frame

It appears as though there are actually two parts manuals. One for machines up to & including 48A6392, the other for machines from 48A6393-Up. Maybe @hector gemme can tell you what the difference is.

2J-5808 services to 2J-5810. 4J-5167 appears to be the latest iteration. The prefix of your bulldozer appears to be a 72F as fitted to 48A-prefix tractors up to S/N 6392.
