Yes,I’m looking at those oil feed pipes now you mention them.
Did someone drop it?
Obviously that pic is when it was first removed from the tractor.
Be nice to see some pics of the recon tranny going back in.
And the coolers…..

Not sure if they have the same stuff now. But you do not want to use RTV as the gasket maker, RTV allows movement, and like all the recalled for leaking newer cars and trucks, it will in time leak.
And did you find all the bearing rollers? Needle bearings? Usually refer to small bearing rollers not over .100 diameter?

I damaged the oil tubes and fitting when removing because we tried leaving the torque outlet relief valve on but ended up having to take it off too. New lines and a new fitting was installed. Only one planetary needle bearing cage come apart so I seen the fragments during disassembly but didn’t account for each one. I do know there is no loose bearings inside the transmission now. CTP has reseal kits with all the gaskets, orings,
oil seal and locking straps so RTV was not used. Sorry I didn’t get any pics after assembly but will get a few before the scavenge pump, u joint and valves get installed.

I might have missed some things as I skimmed through this thread. Were the oil levels in the final drives checked? It's pretty common at this stage that the final drive pinion gear seals are leaking. I always check the cross shaft ring gear side play before reinstalling the tranny as well. You probably haven't pulled the fuel tank to do the transmission but as I recall it was only four bolts and the fuel line to get it out. Then you could get into the linkage and check the brake that isn't working properly. I'm with Mr. Chidog when it come to old machines like this. These things are like opening up a casket. There is no end to fixing stuff and when do you stop and try to make some money with it.

Pinion seals seems good because the final drive housings was not over full. The right side brake cover that is a bit troublesome didn’t show anything out of the ordinary other than the stand pipe oring being severely broken up. The pressure of both brake housings was at 300psi but the right side would leak off after 4-5 seconds. Here is a few pics.

Fair bit of rust in there,but it’s a start.
Steering clutches on these is a job I hate.
Hard graft and a few bleeding fingers for the have a go hero’s like me.
You’ll certainly want someone that’s very experienced to check things out in there as to what parts are serviceable.
Time,patience and money are the order of the day .

The inside of the cab has been painted yellow sometime in the past. Anyone know of or have a recommendation of brown for the interior that’s sorta close to the original color? On the exterior we used Sherwin Williams old cat yellow and it’s close enough and looks good. I’m satisfied with it.

I think the original brown was Mojoca brown.Nige may be able to correct me on the pronunciation with abit of Spanish.
In the UK,Finnings can not get this colour in,they say that Cat discontinued the paint and couldn’t acquire the ral code.

Close. Mojave brown. You're right though, it looks to be NLA.

Since all is good now, how much $ total on the whole machine? Hours to fix etc etc. Seems like everyone likes to keep the $ a big secret, why?

Some owners of high end cars like to brag about the huge $ spent on things like oil changes. :D

10k purchase price;
9k CTP & Cat parts;
10k guesstimate in local purchases such as hoses, fluids, welding and for a extra helper a few times etc. Also put in a better seat (in an old dozer).
I did not keep up with the hours closely, but I’d guess somewhere around 140-180hrs.
Before the break down there were 2 jobs that were completed, plus the improvements made to my place puts it n good standing with Me. It was a lot of work as everyone spoke of here on the forum and may blow up into the moon tomorrow, but she’s a pushin like a champ today. Besides, it’s pretty satisfying looking out the back window at a lipstick covered hog n the yard with very little money in. Thx everyone for helping with and answering my elementary questions.

No chidog I won’t sell it to ye
