Deere 328D joystick centering error

Started my 2012 Deere skid steer a couple of days ago and it has a right joystick centering error. Can't enable the hydros so the thing won't even move. I've tried cleaning the connectors, etc., moving the stick slightly in all directions but no luck so far. I'm 90 miles away from a John Deere dealer but I guess I'm going to have to get a service call. I've read this is about $2800 fix if the joystick needs replacement, any ideas or magic fixes out there?

Machine serial number?

Specific code? Is it active right away, or does it become active when you move the handle?

First thing I would try is a calibration for the system the controller is controlling (hydraulic or hydrostatic). Do you know how to access service mode in the monitor?

It happens as soon as I start the engine.
I will get the exact code when I'm at the machine in about a week.
I know how to clear trouble codes, do you mean access service mode through the EMU?
I'm also going to get the Diagnostic and Repair manuals.
Thanks for your help!

Yep

2660.14 is a redundancy error. That means the 2 internal position sensors (in the joystick) don't match.

The troubleshooting procedure says:

Turn key switch on. Clear the codes. Cycle the key off, then back on. If DTC returns, then replace the right joystick controller.

Positional errors caused by electronically controlled devices usually occures when 2 potentiometers don't match their specified ohm readings when they should. In your case, a common potentiometer would be of the 10 turn type to gain reasonable resolution for reliable and accurate positioning. Note that these devices are not created equal. Some increase resistance when rotated clockwise and some decrease. Plus their resistance is not the same. For the sake of argument, when your potentiometer is at mid travel, (joy stick centered) it should read 100 ohms ( just a example). You have 2, X and Y axis. If one reads 100 ohms and the other 89 ohms AND your control module is looking for 10% margin of error or less, it locks out. This is just a simple explanation of how systems like this works. These numbers in no way relate to your machine. Hope this explanation helps.

Replaced Joystick, problem solved. The Tech informed me that I could have changed it myself, there is no calibration, he just installed the joystick and cleared the error code. So I could have saved $600 in labor and fees. The joystick itself cost $2800.
Great forum, thanks for the help - Brent
