Deere 333G DEF fault codes

Good afternoon, I have a Deere 333G Serial number 1TO333GKTKF365514 that presented 2 fault codes for the DEF system last week. Code 523625.00 DEF purge failure very high and 523586.03 DEF dosing unit pump circuit fault. At the time they first popped up the machine went into a countdown until it would derate the machine (started at 30 minutes I believe) I shut the machine down and made arrangements to get it to the dealer for repair. They got to it yesterday and claim it wasn't showing any active codes so they kept it inside overnight and then again today they said it wasn't showing any active codes so there is nothing more they can do. I am more than skeptical that they have any understanding of emissions issues as this seems to be the answer I get from this particular dealer location on a regular basis (nothing we can do without active codes). I wanted to reach out to the group and try to learn more about this issue as I suspect there is some degree of checking and or diagnosis that can be done with the stored codes. Any help or direction would be appreciated.

This code will most likely be a broken wire at the dosing injector. The loom on the wire is real tight where it pinches the wires where they exit the loom. All you or the dealer has to do is pull some on those wires. You should see the insulation stretch on the broken wire. If not, then with the warmed up engine running, pull and yank and twist in that spot and the code will become active. I have had to replace about 6 left side harness's due to that code and they were all at the injector wires. The dealer could also watch the DEF injector duty cycle and see that change with the wire wiggle.

The other code may be related since the reversing operation requires the injector to be opened to allow the DEF to return to the tank. Since the DCU sees an error with the injector circuit it can't reverse properly.

mg2361 Thanks so much for the insight, I will absolutely be following up with the 'service' department today and will keep this post updated.

So as predictable as the sun coming up in the east they told me that the codes are no longer active and machine is 'fine'. I was also informed this morning that the harness that mg2361 suggested (I mentioned it only because I was trying to actually fix the machine) couldn't be an issue because my serial number 'wasn't within the range' for that issue' They also suggested it was bad DEF fluid which I called them out on as we always use the same brand and sealed containers if not emptied when first opened it is disposed of to eliminate issues of contamination. I personally picked machine up, told them it was not fixed and that I would be back. Within 2 hours of run time on machine after I got it back (dealer had put 3.5 hours on machine while they had it) fault code 523586.03 returned. I left machine running all the way to the dealer so there was no way it 'wasn't active'. They plugged into machine, said yes it's active and to leave it and they will look into it next week. I'm not holding out much hope for this to get resolved any time soon but wanted to keep the post up to date. In some ways it's unfortunate this is still under warranty as I have someone that would find and repair this properly if I wanted to pay for it.

To follow up (and hopefully close this issue up) Monday midday the dealership rep came out to my shop to talk with me about the machine. He said that it was in fact an issue with the harness (Again big thanks to mg2361 as he called it immediately) and that they would have one in hand Tuesday morning and I should have the machine back Wednesday morning. Of course there was much discussion had about the lack of 'service' in what they call the 'service department' at that point in time. As of now we have had the machine back to work for a couple of days so far and its been fine. I cannot say it enough how much I appreciate those that know their stuff and are willing to share that information with those of us in need of it. Its the guys like in this case mg2361 that really make me appreciate the help that can be found on this site.

I'm having these same codes on my 331G, which is out of warranty. Can the harness be repaired? $2200 for a new harness.

Yep. You just have to find the break in the wire. Post a picture of your DEF injector and its harness, and I will point out the most likely (but not guaranteed) spot of the break. You do have an active 523586.03 code, correct?

It will throw that code every time within a few minutes if I throttle up beyond half throttle. At half throttle I can usually run for a while before it happens. It clears when I shut down. I also get the 523625.00 code, clears when I shut down.

You nailed it. Once I opened up the loom I could see the wires were both pretty badly crushed where the loom stopped. Red one was stretchy. Put just a little pressure on it and it snapped. Repaired the wires last night, going to test run today. Thanks again!

Harness was rubbing on the mounting bracket it just that I moved it. From there to repair it. Not rodents lol
Also btw as soon as I repaired it the 523586.03 went away right away but 523625.00 stayed on for a bit but after a while it went away.
